IMHO ferns are the best companions plants for hostas. Japanese fern is awesome! ...also Christmas fern.
Of course red or pink or white astilbes provide excellent companions.

Re: What turned out to be your best newer hostas this year?
Ebb Tibe has captured my eyes since it's close to the house. It has exploded this year. Emerald Ruff Cut is also attracting my eyes...after 3 years it get lots better. Journey's End is a real pleasure to watch. Hanky Panky was so unique and nice that I bought another one this year. I really like the...

What Zilis book?
After being lied to for more than 3 years....I'm slowly loosing faith in the man...Perhaps he does not give a darn about any of us.... I'm getting a a stage...not anxious...not waiting...a stage which is very much 'neutral'. In fact I dont give a darn if Mark does not ever come out with any book. Th...

2008 Wish List
I agree with the "Must Have" suggested by Chris. I have them all and are good growers.
I would add the following:
Wylde Green Cream
Salute
Paradise Joyce
Fire and Ice
Dick Ward
Designer Genes
All of the above grow well in the Ottawa region.

Size of hostas at maturity
Hi Ann,
If you go to My Website , I have a page that talks about the Size of Hostas
It has been my experience that many hostas will grow bigger than what is normally written on the tag at purchase time.

It's easy to insert pictures in a Word document or on an Excel spreadsheet. With Word the inserted pic will take the full width of the page, whereas with Excel, the inserted pic will be the size of the pic you took with your camera. One advantage with Excel is that there are "handles" which you use ...

Now I understand that all I have to do is to paste the copied image from Photobucket in this present window. I'll post another pic ...this time Choo Choo Train...which is also infected with virus HVX: htt...

After hosta gardening for 5 years the virus finally got to me...at least in a way that it showed...possible the virus must have been hiding in my gardens for a long time...dont know for sure. Anyway, here's a photo of my infected Lady Guinevere...BTW, the virus was confirmed by Chris...and I thank y...

For the last couple of days temperatures have been higher than normal here in the Ottawa-Montreal region. The safety date however is May 4, so anything can happen between now and then. It is nice to be out there cleaning up...and patiently awaiting for those eyes to come out...Right now I can see so...
