This is the perfect place to vent frustrations because we do understand. Yes they are plants but when you want them to do well and they aren't it can be frustrating. I look at all of my hostas and other things I have planted like my kids or fur babies. They get sick-you give them medicine. They misb...

Thanks Renaldo. Just went out and looked at the hostas that seemed to have gotten the worse damage from the freeze. I covered all my hostas with lots of leaves during the freeze but the bloom ratio is mixed. Vim & Vigor-no blooms Guac-no blooms June-no blooms Green Piecrust-blooming Olive Bailey Lan...

I too have several blooming early. I just attributed it to the hard freeze we had when everything was first coming up. Could it be because the freeze caused the second flush of leaves to happen earlier and 'tricked' the hostas into believing they were further along in the season then we actually are...

I covered my hostas with leaves the first of the week. Almost all of mine were up-anything from just eyes to unfurling leaves. The cold hit a night earlier than predicted so I was glad I was keeping an eye on the weather. I also had fruit trees blooming or just finishing blooming. I was out last wee...

Seed pod question
I've got only 2 seed pods. One on Niagara Falls and one on Elegans-both OP. They have been there since July. I've read the post in the other section but as there is only one pod on each how do I tell if they are 'ripe' without possibly losing all the seeds checking? I've never harvested seeds before...

Man with all these additions to the list and the fact that I only began buying hostas in 2003-I could be looking at most of my plants being wiped out. I haven't found a nursery in my immediate area where I haven't seen an infected plant and I've purchased from these places several times over the las...

Wow, OED. I did not know that either. I do know that they weren't out in the sun too long after that. My daughter brought Mav back here to my house and put him in the backyard where he instantly headed for the hosta beds and stretched out on his belly. Makes sense after what you just said. My poms d...

Frustrating? Oh Yah!!!! She's black and she typically gets out at night and we live on a busy street. I've had a few sleepless nights worrying. I used to be able to get in the car and drive around until I saw her and then could coax her in with a 'Let's go bye-bye' call, but even that doesn't work a...

Day 1-She was in the yard when I got home from work last night. I am hopeful. Only time will tell now. She really is a very loving dog, loves her toys and she is very good with the granddaughters. When they were babies she would hear them before I would and come and get me to go get them. Her previo...

Houdini dog
This is what we call my 9 year old Black Pom. She likes to climb fences-chain link being her specialty. She finds more ways to get out of the fenced in backyard than I can imagine. I have chicken wire around the entire backyard all folded over at the top to form a shelf that she can't 'reach' over. ...

Chris-What a tough decision you have been forced to make. I can't even imagine the impact it is having on you financially. I wish there was some other option for you, but I really admire your determination and conscientousness to providing quality plants. You must be heartbroken. There just aren't w...
