My peonies weren't damaged during that cold spell. In fact they're now ready to bloom and some of them are three feet tall. This is our first year in this home so we don't know what to expect as far as flower colors.

OED now I know why I was saving those plastic milk jugs. For cloches. Thanks for reminding me.

Please bear with me as I am truly new at gardening. Where can I buy this soiless mixture? Should I just plant this in a container with the soiless mixture and then transplant it next spring?

Thanks for the replies. The lilacs are just starting to bloom so I'll take a couple of cuttings in two weeks.

Thanks John. I haven't taken a good look around the base of the lilac bush but as you said there are probably some suckers there.

Midnight Reiter how did your plants that you covered with plastic come through the cold spell? My hubby covered a clematis vine with one of the insulated bags we use for keeping take out food hot and the vine came through fine. Hope yours made it okay too.

A neighbor has a lilac bush and has kindly offered to let me take a couple of cuttings. Will the lilac start from a cutting?

Once this crazy weather is over I'm going to get some cuttings from the redwood.

Love the picture of Lacy and Sammy. I fostered a little terrier mix four years ago. She's doing fine and of course still with us. I couldn't bear to let her go. We're limited to one dog. If and when we move I'll definitely have more.

Thanks for that tip I have a few large buckets that I'll put over part of the peonies. I couldn't figure out what a plaid was until I read that you're from Denmark. I have some towels I can use to cover the mums.

A neighbor has what he calls a red bark dogwood. There are several new shoots around the main plant and he has invited me to dig one of them for my yard. When is the right time for digging and are there any special preparations I should make for the dogwood?

That is so pretty. I looked at geraniums at the nursery today but held off buying them. It's supposed to be in the 20s tomorrow night with snow.

My peonies are all more than a foot tall now and my chrysanthemums are about six inches tall. Tomorrow night it's supposed to get down to around 25º and snow. I'm a newbie to perennials. Can I protect these plants or are they gonners? Suggestions anyone?

I hope your dahlias make it. I'm in zone 5. Wonder if I could get by with planting some and leaving them in the ground over the winter? It sounds like yours were in a well protected spot.
