The same thing happened to me in May. An elderly couple obviously took a lot of time to grow a modest stock of hostas in their back yard. They were selling them to suppliment their income and were very proud of what they had. I heard about their place by word of mouth and stopped by just to look aro...

I was afraid the answer would be no. I've held off buying or trading hostas for a year and a half (with a couple of exceptions) just to take stock of what I have and observe how healthy my hostas are. So far so good, but as Chris says, it is wise to still be vigilant and careful about cross-contamin...

Joyless trip to the local nursery - Question
Chris, I was wondering. Would you happen to know how much the growers in the EU are trying to curb the HVX problem? Or are they happily churning out sick hostas as long as people here are willing to buy them? Has there been any progress to stem the spread of HVX here in the US? I know these are fund...

Maddie, Maddie, Maddie, what a lovely little kittie you are! And what a survivor. I'm partial to black cats for some reason (surprise!), but haven't had any tragic road mishaps, thank goodness. It sounds like Maddie has found a good home. Her luck in finding you and Brian will hopefully carry her th...

Clematis are so beautiful and grow in places that a lot of flowers don't. I have c. 'niobe' that is really thriving, however it is entwined around a climbing rose that is all but dead. Once I clear that thorny mess up, I'm afraid Niobe is going to be downsized considerably. Hopefully, it will survive.

The antibiotic wouldn't happen to be called Clavamox (the human version is called Augmentin), would it? If it is, you're in luck! That stuff works wonders on bite wound infections. Trying to pill a cat can be a physically and emotionally trying experience. We resorted to using a pill "popper" for Se...

Sorry to be off-topic, but after seeing the herding instinct mentioned, I had to bring up an incident with two shelties I know. They belong to a nice couple who bring them to our astronomy star parties twice a year. The dogs actually try to herd the small groups of children that come through on occa...
