Gosh, that is pretty! Sure hope ours do as well. Actually, I am grateful they even came up after the extreme cold we had this winter. They do not appear to be any the worse for wear, although that cold snap we had last week nipped them a bit. We shall see…….

Re: Veggie Gardens??
Chris, glad your garden did well this year. Sorry about the varmints helping themselves. In past years, we have "shared" our produce with the groundhogs and rabbits and I spent many hours spraying our plants with a pepper/dish detergent mixture to deter them from getting the first pick. Depending on...

Re: Veggie Gardens??
Ugh, you can have it!! We have had so much rain, my tall flowers are falling over. Cleome and Delphiniums are top heavy anyway, so when the soil is so wet, the root systems can't hold the plant upright and the whole thing topples, pulling the roots right up. I have more support canes in the garden t...

Re: Veggie Gardens??
Absolutely worst year ever for vegetable garden. Cold Spring, too much rain made it impossible to get tiller into garden. Then I had viral bronchitis, which laid me up for 3 weeks in early June. Squeezed planting in at the end of June. More rain! And now, the mosquitoes, which are the size of robins...

Re: Tomato Cages???
I have had my tomato cages for a long time, too. I did buy some new ones last year at Home Depot. They were much taller and wider than my old ones. Anyway, top heavy 'maters can pull over pretty much any tomato cage so we pound a couple tomato stakes or a piece of pvc pipe down through the cage and ...

Re: Refinishing Antiques
Nice work. It is so rewarding to turn a sad looking piece into a lovely restored one. When H and I got married 37 years ago, we had lots of pieces picked up at flea markets, auctions, trash heaps. We spent hours refinishing and repairing them. We use those pieces still. We were students back then an...

Re: Is nobody losing weight this year.
I am losing weight this year. The pounds crept up on me over the last 25 years and I found myself 70 lbs over my optimum weight. I am more than half way done and feel better and have more energy. I think you need to find what works for you. Since you only put on weight after you quit smoking (congra...

Re: Another Hawk...Coopers
We have lived in this house for 31 years and I have never seen so many raptors as in the last two summers. They are coming right up to our house, sitting on the pool railing, and are just more visible than ever before. I am not sure if it is because the ground game is being decimated by the coyotes,...

We have much the same list as last year as we were diverted from our intended projects to emergency projects (installation and monitoring of security cameras, squirrel proofing our chain link fence from the aluminum snarfing squirrels, and blocking the myriad of groundhogs digging under the fence in...

Re: SHRUB
Is it sunny or shady? Wet or dry? How big is the area that needs to be covered? My first thought was lavender. Some varieties are lower growing and can be "evened up" after blooming to give a more formal appearance. If you want a true shrub and the conditions are right, maybe some kind of slow growi...

I can't see the leaves very well and don't know the size of the plant. Is it some kind of ragwort?

Re: African Violets - any fanciers here?
Don't know how I missed this thread. I love African violets and have grown them off and on for many years. It is an addicting hobby and can easily branch out to collecting Streptocarpus, a pretty relative of the violet. There used to be a family owned greenhouse near by me and they grew the most bea...

Re: This is Rocky!
Sorry to hear about Rocky's medical problem. When I was growing up, our family dog had epileptic seizures. The vet gave us Phenobarb for her but only when she actually had a seizure, not as a maintenance med. She usually knew when she was about to have one and would come to us for comfort. She would...

Oh, I think I might have been wrong. It looks more like a Cooper's hawk. Has the same markings on the closed wings and tail banding with a squared off tail. Do you have Cooper's where you live?

I think it might be a sparrow hawk. They are small and have banding on their tails.

Re: Introducing Gus!
Wish we could get our pets from a rescue. We live next to a community park and a lot of people drop their pets off when the pet is sick or has babies. Over the 31 years we have been here, we have kept 5 cats for ourselves, given 3 cats, a dog and a rabbit to other folks who were willing to give them...
