Re: please tell me about what i have missed
Have moved my collection twice in the last 18 yrs. don't envy your task. I've done it in pots, now I would use plastic grocery bags and get them planted asap if I had to do it again. Welcome back to the Hosta world, would love to hear about the fungus growing, daughter want to grow shrooms.

Jgh, wonderful episode as usual. I was known as the "ugly american" by my family on my first trip into Mexico for much of the learning and AC I experienced. Thanks for sharing your travels with us! Hope you are enjoying Roatan.

Great adventures once again Jim and Sheila! Just read all the posts, just found them today, and so glad you told us you were home. I may have had a bit of a panic attack through some parts, I do tend to worry about the two of you. Thanks for sharing, loved each episode as always!

Re: Checking In
Great pics Phylis, thanks for sharing them! I like your wild area, you are really helping out the natives to help you in return. We have a Wild Ones group here, and all of their yards look like that with no grass at all. I think they have a web page if you want to check them out, good info on it. H....

Re: Planting hosta
Hi Jan, good to hear from you! Sounds like you remember, make that cone and spread the roots and cover. Something new I am trying this year is to throw in a couple hands full of perlite into the planting hole. Happy planting!

Re: Some of last year's seedlings
Karen, your seedlings look great. I plant out from 15 to fifty each year. The numbers are getting smaller each year as my space shrinks. Over the past 5 or so years at this house I've been able to see them from your babies to about 4yr olds. Some really jump up in size around 3 or 4 years and now ar...

Re: Hosta damage while emerging
Good answers Chris and Mark! Having 3 dogs and frost, I have a lot of this also. I used to tear off those messed up leaves, and hope that the next leaves would come out of the center, but now leave the deformed ones so the plant can use them to make "food" for itself. Once the damaged leaves seem to...

Lots poking up here, some unfurling. I have a weeping cherry tree that bloomed during the night, and my red bud should start blooming in the morning. Weird, for sure.

Re: Niagara Falls
Yes, I get it, but have no answer. Good question, I look forward to reading some of the suggestions, replies you get. I have some terra cotta drainage pipe here, very tall thou, about 3.5'. it is about 18" across, and I put a potted plant in it during the gardening season. I like either a fountain s...

Re: Potted Hostas
I took mine out of the garage, cleaned out the dead leaves and watered them. The eyes are up and some ready to unfurl. If I get cold temps predicted, I put them back into the garage for the night. Here, you have to do a lot of in and out to be sure they don't get zapped. Can't help it, I love to see...

Re: To rake or not?
Chicago weather changes very quickly. In a normal year I leave them on until May 15. Every year that I remove them early, I am out with every empty pot I can find to cover them when I get a night with low, below 30, temp prediction. I'm kind of neurotic, I suck them all up with the blower attachment...

Re: New puppy at our house
Thanks he is a joy. Nothing like having a westie pup, boy that was a wild ride for sure. He is loving, and calm, but keeps up with the boxer, ruff and tough. Poor prancer, he tries to keep up, but he is just out-weighted by them.

New puppy at our house
This is "Mickey", or Mick Jagger, named by my daughter. http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a273/justaysam/pets003.jpg He is a cocker bichon mix. Very good boy, had him about a month now. We lost, to old age, our Westie this past summer, and I was missing the "3" dogs. His brothers like him, the Boxer...
