Our Papillon Pup! Meet Choco!
This cutie patootie is Choco (pron. Chaw-ko) He was born on April 5 and joined our family on June 12. We'd originally adopted his littermate (Chip, see below), but he proved to have a personality that didn't work for our family and we took him back to the breeder. Choco's personality fits very well ...

Re: YOUR tour of my garden!
Thank you everyone for your kind words! I love to share my garden, but I often think the pics do not adequately show it. Beautiful gardens, Melissa. Thank you for sharing them with us...great photos, too! May I ask...in the photo with Pineapple Upside Down Cake, what is the dark blue hosta in the up...

Similar notion, but a more refined version might be a shade sail: http://soulofthegarden.com/Images/February2007ShadeSail.jpg And to give it some visual interest, you can do something like this: http://www.backyardcity.com/images/Coolaroo/Shade-Sail-Hypar-Design.jpg http://www.sunshade-shadesails.co...

YOUR tour of my garden!
Like Jim, I was also on the MN Hosta Society Open Tours this year and my turn was this week. Since this is probably the best my garden will look all year, I think it's about time I share some pics and not just drool over all yours! Here is a slideshow tour. Most of the pics are landscape shots, very...

Mixed Daylily Border?
I seem to have a lot more daylilies than I thought... and I even have a few more that are in pots from a sale in May.
But now, I'm trying to figure out what to do with them.
Does anyone have pics of a mixed daylily border?

Re: repellex
This product is extremely expensive. You have to add a plant's height plus width (in feet) and use that many tablets per plant. So, if you have a Blue Angel that's 2 feet tall by 5 feet wide, that's 7 tablets! And a bottle of 50 tabs is $20 in a retail store. So, that's 40 cents each. You can, howev...

Re: Harbor Lane Gardens - open for tour today!
Pia, This tour setup is new for our area. For the gardens who are open, there is about 2-3 hours distance between the furthest gardens, so there would be no way to feasibly be able to see everything if they were all open just one day. In fact, in Jim's quadrant, there were 12 open, but I made it to ...

Re: Garden tour etiquette
I disagree with Rick on the gift plant. If it's a TOUR, then a plant would be inappropriate. Imagine if everyone who toured brought a plant. If it's a personal visit, then a plant is very appropriate. I agree on not picking up the tags, even if you plan to put them back. No Smoking, even in the driv...

Re: Need Groundcover meeting this description:
gold moneywort is a very low growing groundcover, takes sun, shade, heat, foot traffic. Of course there is a downside also. It's very vigorous! Meaning you will have to keep an eye on it to keep it where you want it. I use it a lot because I absolutely love spring color. Teresa I have lots of the s...

Re: Foliar nematodes - how early can you find them?
Here in MN, I saw them on July 30th last year.
No signs yet this year, but it's been a bit hotter here than last year, but equally as wet.

Well, the Stepables idea was where I started (thanks to a suggestion from another garden friend). I found what I wanted: Trifolium 'Dark Dancer' aka 'Black Clover' aka 'Bronze Dutch Clover' I ended up finding 3 of them at a local nursery and placed the pots in the spot. Looked like I had the perfect...

Need Groundcover meeting this description:
I'm almost done planting out a garden in my front landscape. I need 1 more plant though (actually 3-5 plants, 1 cultivar). Very low groundcover (not more than 3", since a 4" sprinkler head has to clear it). Needs to be able to take full sun, heat off the asphault driveway, dry out between waterings ...

Re: Using Neem oil on hostas?
I know that horticultural oil will dissolve the wax off the blue hostas, so you might try it on an inconspicuous blue to see if you can live with the results.
