Re: storing pollen?
oohh white streaked RS... sounds really cool. of all the experiments i've done the grand slam seems to be... well.... a grand slam LOL. i'm hoping some of these seedlings have even more ruffles on their leaves - or redder stalks. but even if these all end up looking like mom, no problem, i think GS ...

Hey thank you! Steg and Ann thank you thank you ! Wow what a wealth of photos  I will most definitely take you up on that offer! Re: storing pollen?
Ohhh yes, I did pollen / pod tests with the wonderful hostas I got from you - let's see... it was Raspberry Sorbet - great pollen parent but not one single pod formed on any of them - tried pollen from several different hostas including the Grand Slam. Selfed didn't take either. So Sweet, Hyuga Uraj...

Re: Nice Orange Lily (Tiger Lily?) for postage
Thanks for the ID on the Daylilies
I see that they are on the invasive species lists - so I'll make sure that I mention that whoever takes any be careful to put them someplace isolated from wild areas.

Chris,
That Grand Slam I got from you has been a great pollen donor and almost every flower has turned into a nice pod. Really looking forward to growing those babies out!

photos of hostas - any help much appreciated
Hey Everyone, I have been working on a hosta database (Yes I know - been done before, more than once) and was hoping that you might allow me to use photos of your hostas. I am happy to give credit for photos, and also links to your website if you'd like. Why am I doing this you ask? Well, I've been ...

Nice Orange Day Lily (Tiger Lily?) for postage
I've got an abundance of Daylilies, Hemerocallis fulva, and am willing to share the wealth with anyone who is interested... for the price of postage. These are on the invasive species lists - so please make sure that you are careful to put them someplace isolated from wild areas. I've had them growi...

Re: Interesting info on spaying.....:-)
Nice summary of the issues. It's a tough decision, no doubt about it! I waited for my female mastiff (first one) to go through a few cycles before spaying. With such a large breed (she was 186 pounds in her prime), I wanted to give her organs and bones as much time as possible to mature. In her case...

Re: Betty and her spay
I agree that spaying is important to do - for several reasons not the least of which is less risk of cancers caused by hormones. My mastiff was a rescue from a puppy mill who had cancer because of the high levels of hormones from being constantly pregnant. Not to mention the other complications and ...

Re: Beautiful Hosta Bloom Cluster
wowow, those are awesome. i love the bunched effect with shorter scapes. i bought a halcyon from a nursery this year just because it had one of those mutant flower stalks on it with a blob of flowers, much like yours. i am hoping it's not a one-time thing and next year we'll get the midget blooms ag...

Re: storing pollen?
thought i'd do a quick follow up... i decided to try storing some pollen for next spring. what i did was clip off the pollen pods onto some of those flat cotton cosmetic pads you can buy at the drug store. i folded the cotton around the pods then put them in tiny zip lock baggies, and then into a ja...

ahhh i'm jealous. mine bloomed successfully for a few flowers, then aborted the rest, including a new flower stalk it was pushing up. hopefully next year he'll be a little happier.

Oh sorry... forgot to say thanks Joan, for the nice comment on my avatar. I love CG art and she is one of my favorite characters - created one night with too much time on my hands and way too much caffeine LOL.

OK cool beans. Thanks for the explanations.
And... I have been pollinating my Raspberry Sorbet, Grand Slam, So Sweet and Hyuga Urajiro - crossing fingers I won't be totally seedless for the seed exchange.
