Re: Can anyone identify this?
I would not be able to ID that one but looking at the shape of the leaves I would say Sum and Substance has a history in there. Is it a LARGE leaf?

El Nino Sport?
I guess this El Nino is sporting? I am going to leave this division on the plant and see what comes of it. The normal part of this El nino is no where near as big

Re: What is the Hosta you're most disappointed in?
It may be an idea to try digging them up and potting them in a small pot. I find this works better thn being in the ground. I have to admit my Fire an Ice has never done well whatever I do with it. Fragrant Blue is just the same for me

Re: Can anyone ID these Hostas?
The brown markings on the Edge of Francis Williams are where it is "melting out" this is something that this hosta waas known for doing. If you are going to split her then try and out the divisions in a very shady area. that may help a bit. If you particular like that hosta then have a look at olive...

Re: Feels great to be digging in the dirt again :)
Over here in Britain ALL my hosta seem to be up early ( rather a warm winter) there is usually an order and a few dont seem to push through until much later than others. The exceptions this year have been Praying Hands (very early) June (as good as open) Golden and Emerald tiara (open fully)

Re: Flower "split"
I don't know "Sweet and Sour" but I have seen this type of thing happen with a few different vars. It may be a one and only flower on the scape the does that ( I have never seen it happen on a full scape of flowers) I don't think it means anything really unless the whole scape flowers like that.

Re: S&S?
As earlier and as Chris said it's just a matter of time. I suppose it depends on how mature the plant was when first aquired. So many times have some of mine been great for a few years then odd year just come up and sulk.

I think that could be normal for any hosta. So many times have I seen several just come up and sulk for a few years then all of a sudden........ BANG

Re: Urban Garden Hodgepodge
I may be wrong on this but have always wondered if there is a reason hosta leaf stems are shaped as they are, ie u or v shaped. In my idea it is to carry the rain water (as in a gutter) to the crown and central area, and on the same theory the leaf tips are usualy pointed (drip tips) so the excess r...

Re: Gold Standard unusual shape to leaves
Is this set of leaves a second flush of leaves? I have had some do this during that stage. Especially August Moon, sometimes that produces almost banana shaped leaves during it's second set of leaves.

Looks like it's been wet and the sun has scortched the edge. Nothing at all to worry about.

Re: Planting hosta
Hello from sunny England UK. What an absolute barhain and WOW what a collection. To be quite honest re the planting I don't think it makes much difference which way you plant them. Personally I would plant them intact (straight drom the pot) as the plant will have had enough of a shock anyway. Pleas...

If you move it to a sunny position after a few days it will look completely different. PG always comes up darker or plain looking but soon changes in the sun.
