Re: Miracle Grow
Kht that's fine as long as the Ph doesn't stay above 7. I do know some who also have to add lime to their beds due to the acid rain here in the NE. True Tomato fertilizer at least what is made here in the states is slightly acidic and should be good for hostas as well.

Monsanto sues farmers
Folks if you knew what this company has done you'd be outraged especially if your a farmer. This is my response to a posting on my facebook page about a farmer being sued by Monsanto becuase he does not use their seeds and the company claims he is stealing patented DNA material bees from other farms...

Re: I Wish My Hostas Grew Faster
For those who wish to grow hostas faster making sure plenty of water is provided along with a good soil and fertilizer is key but particularly water especially in the spring. The plants as I'm sure all are aware originated in the eastern areas of China, Korea and Japan. Rainfall amounts typically ex...

Re: Miracle Grow
Miracle Gro is an excellent all purpose fertilizer and also includes important micro nutrients that a lot of other cheaper brands do not. Unfortunately it needs to be reapplied more often as the nutrients tend to leach out of the soil with rain and watering. And there is some debate about whether so...

Not sure what your zone is but there are a number of trees that make attractive additions and would work well in the landscape where hosta is a primary planting. Some of these are: Eastern Hemlock Various specie and hybrid Magnolias-large leaved evergreen forms are particularly attractive Various sp...

I have this hosta and yours is probably a 2yr TC like mine since it just became available in the states. It does require some good light to develop the yellow coloring and as it matures the rippling will develop.

And be very careful what you believe comes out of the FDA. Who heads the FDA none other than Michael Taylor former executive of Monsanto. The FDA does no testing of any drug but uses the drug manufacturer's own test results to approve a drug for use. Talk about the fox guarding the hen house. Oh the...

Oh my yes the use of X-rays and Mammograms is such a lie in helping prevent cancer as you found out in Dr. Mercola's website. Truly the lies are so previlent in so much of our culture and society I sometimes wonder if there are enough of us fighting to right what is wrong and is it worth it? Monsant...

Boops glad to hear of another person who is wise to the way of the medical industry, government, and food producers. I'm very active in a number of organizations in bringing the truth about these issues to light. Currently a major group I'm active with is "Just Label It." A major effort is underway ...

Actually Mark Zillis in the Hostapedia says it has been checked on a number of occasions for HVX and found not infected. However I appreciate everyone's comments and will take your advice and pass on it. Brian Skaggs and Virginia created some incredible plants such as Empress Wu but most are not ava...

Hosta Xanadu Paisley
I was wondering if anyone has Xanadu Paisley and their impressions of it. I'm interested in purchasing one but the price is quite high. I understand the coloring can be variable from year to year but never reverts to a solid color. I do have Gunther's Prize and it seems the color and pattern are sim...

Boops unfortunately I don't believe you can buy raw milk in NY thanks to the dairy industry however, the common belief and what all the doctors tell you about eating meat is a lie. Yes a study was done in 1951 about consumption of meat and fat from it. Of course the study stated that doing so was no...

Re: Doggone critters!!!
I've certainly had my share of problems with critters this year as well but can up everyone as I now have a bear that keeps coming into the yard to get at the trash cans. The yard is surrounded in back and on one side with an electric fence and also helps keep the deer out and so the dogs don't go o...

Re: Just placed my first order with Hallson Gardens
I received my order today and must say I am quite impressed. Over the last few years I've ordered hostas from a half dozen or so growers and a couple I would praise and speak well of but I don't think but maybe one other grower offers such high quality plants except not at the competitive price of H...

Re: HVX transfered in pollen
Thanks Chris. I don't believe I have any that are infected but with new additions one cannot be sure unless each one is tested and just wondered about transfer of the virus via pollen as I've done some cross pollinating along with all the bees. That's good to know given how quickly the disease is mo...
