Hi,
I am keeping well and thinking of making my koi pond larger but at my age 81 it takes a lot of energy ,so I think that I will be doing a little at a time,
To see what I have been up to go to youtube and put koiboy01 in the search.

Hi,
I to never feed mine, and prune the short branches with the leaves on all through the growing season to keep the shape which is like two clouds one slightly higher and to the left of the other. I havn't got a clue what it's name is.

Hi Sam,
I'll let you off seeing that you have been missing for months, I had heard that you have been living it up in the sun while we have been having this awful weather.

Hi,
Yes ,you should have made the bottom cross piece not as long as the top piece, also it should be placed higher up about 6 inches lower than the top piece, but very good for your first attempt.

Re: Japanese Maples - first pics of 2012
Hi Thy,
I have three kamagata's dotted around in pots and they are okay, I certainly wouldn't say that they where tender as they don't get any special treatment they are just left in the garden all winter, and winter before last was the worst winter we had had for years.

Hi,
Those photo's are brilliant and well worth waiting for.
The buds on my Japanese maples are just starting to swell, I should imagine four to five weeks before they pop.

Re: What happened to my JM buds?
Hi Kevin,
It could maybe have been the frost that got to them but if you have some green shoots coming at least they are still alive so let's hope they survive, also if the compost they have been kept in dried out that could also be a cause.

Re: Advice on some new Japanese Maples needed
Hi Kevin,
I don't see why not it will just be like repotting every year, we do it with our bonsai not every year, but sometimes every two or three years. yes the weather should be warming up soon and we can all look forward to the new growth coming, but it was snowing here yesterday.

Hi,
I really couldn't say how they would survive in your cold climate but I do know that in really cold winters here if they are in small pots they need there roots protecting but in the large pots that I use they are quite allright.
