today the cranes had good tailwinds and flew 101 miles---skipping 1 stop. they are now in pike county, georgia. total accumulated miles 860.4 miles.

hooray!! the cranes have advanced and are now in georgia! there were many difficulties yesterday, but they were able to move on and are now in gordon county.

Cranes Half-Way to Florida
the cranes flew 47.7 miles today and are now at Hiwassee Refuge in Miegs Co., Tn. today was perhaps the most difficult day of the trip as they had to climb to over 2,500 feet to clear the Cumberland Ridge, part of the appalachian mountains. next stop georgia!

Cranes Squeak into Tennessee

Kentucky--finally!!
the cranes finally had good flying weather and are now in shelby county, kentucky. they had a lot of down-time in indiana due to poor weather conditions and also lost 1 crane.

cranes fly to morgan county, indiana
thanks everyone. this site is also interesting in the spring when the cranes fly their northern migration. today they flew 55.2 miles and are now around indianapolis and in morgan county, indiana. total miles flown--393.1.

sweet potato tuber
this spring i purchased some type of a sweet potato or potato vine (solid chartreuse color) for a planter. since our frost, the foliage has now died. when i cleaned out the pot i found some potato tubers. is there some way i can store these over winter so i can plant them in the spring? phloxywis

regarding comet--i'm wondering about the same thing. do you dig out the rhizomes and sprinkle? or leave them in place and sprinkle? trim off the foliage first? i'd sure hate to lose all these hostas. your help is appreciated.
