Garden Treasure
I lost my Garden Treasure and don't see it on Chris' list. Anyone have a reliable source for this hosta. Thanks.

Calycanthus X 'Venus', Hybrid Sweetshrub
Mine is blooming and I think it is as pretty as can be. Deer have not bothered it at all.

Kas,
I will let you read what the experts have to say. Go down the page till you get to the heading Raulston Allspice.

Viktoria,
Can you give me more information about how long you have had them and how they have done growth wise. I thought I would see more new stems coming from the base like my old sweet shrub but I haven't had these very long, less than 2 years.

Re: xSinocalycalycanthus raulstonii 'Hartlage Wine'
Viktoria,
I got them both at the same time from Camellia Forest. This year is the first time Venus will bloom but they are not open yet. Your pictures are great. Hope mine are just as nice. Would definitely recommend both shrubs for part shade.

I got this shrub in the fall of 2008 and so far am really impressed. The blossoms are beautiful and the deer haven't been a problem.

Just had to post a picture of the flower on this shrub. The flower is about 2.5-3" in diameter. I planted mine last fall and it is going great guns. So far the deer haven't bothered it at all. Supposed to be hardy in Zones 5-9. Here is a link to some info. http://www.cals.ncsu.edu/agcomm/successg/fe...

Re: I think I have a problem
Chris, Thanks for your help. I think you are right about what happened. NC was having a very dry period and I thought everything was getting enough water cause most of the hostas looked pretty good last year. The beds with the problem are the ones that get the most sun and unfortunately it is aftern...

I think I have a problem
I moved to NC in 2007 and brought a lot of PA hostas with me. Last year they looked fine but this year may are coming back with fewer and smaller eyes. I have removed some from the ground, they lift easily with few roots. Some of the roots are hollow and mushy and the old crown seems to be mostly go...

Re: Anyone have an Aucuba???
I had one in a protected area in Central PA. I think we were considered zone 6+ there. Here in North Carolina they grow without problem. The deer don't seem to bother them either. I had to edit this statement because I moved the aucuba in the fall and the deer ate/tore all the foliage off them durin...

All of my hostas that I planted last fall are up and unfurling. They seem really happy here in NC and so far all the work we did seems to have paid off. My favorite combination for today anyway is June, Touch of Class and nigrescens. Will have to try and get a picture. I gave them plenty of room to ...

Speirantha convallarioides
New plant for me. Looks like it could be invasive but none of the websites I find indicate that it is. Does anyone have this one.
