I haven't played with it much, but it just became available to the public and I thought I'd share the news. It doesn't give prices, but it does link to web sites. Just put "hosta" and the name in the search box. I don't know how much help it will actually be, but it might be fun to try it out.

Thanks for the link. I've bookmarked it so I can explore it later.

Super! Just the kind of up-to-date tidbit I needed for my latest column in our hosta society newsletter! (see dvhosta.org in about a week)

If you look for retailers specializing in hostas, it gives 107 hits (and yes, Hallson's is one of them). I see Wade Gardens (the son?) but not Wade & Gatton (the big cheese). Hmmm.

Not an absolute substitute for the Hosta Finder (no prices), but it sure lets you look for yourself.

When I put in "hosta" it came back with 2,839 hits! Does that mean that there are that many named hosta?

Hi Ceil,

Actually there are even more than that. I think the number is over 5,000 names, although I'm certain many of those are different names for the same hostas, not even counting those that are similar.

Thanks, Chris. I had no idea there were that many! From what I had read (some on-line places state "over 400 hostas" and such) I thought it was slightly over 1,000!
Guess I've got a long way to go...
