Just Some Pictures
I was outside with my camera again and just thought I'd share a few pictures with you. Nothing special, just some pictures.
First is American Dream, which I have in less-than-ideal conditions in hot rocks and full late afternoon sun. By mid-summer her color begins to fade, but she sure seems to do well.
The second pic . . . is . . . well . . . c'mon, what's more American here in the midwest than a frilly skirt of hostas around a tree?? Jgh is probably choking on his coffee seeing this picture, (it's on his list of things NOT to do with hostas), but I promise, this is the only one, and I had SO MANY lancifolia I was running out of places to put them. This seemed like a logical way to use the excess!

Start slowly . . . then taper off.

A few more . . . when I moved last year I wasn't ready for all my hostas, so I put them back near the lot line where things are a little unkempt and there is a wooded lot behind. It's shady and moist most of the time. It was just a temporary place to stick the hostas until I could get "real" beds built. But they have done so well here I'm trying to think of how I could develop this area in a hosta spot.

Very nice, Jane!!
I'm trying to figure out why I've never heard of American Dream when yours looks just gorgeous.
And your ring of Lancifolia looks nice too.
I'm sure glad to see that somebody is trying to buck jgh's influence.
Looks to me like you've already got a good start on your woodsy garden. I sure do like where your Green Fountain is situated.
Just build off of that. Figure out your main hostas & garden focal points & go from there.

LOL! Your hosta skirt is cute. I generally don't plant around the base of trees because it would get in the way of the cat runs.

oh! and I really like your woodsy area! wish I had something like that to play with!

My American Dream looks just like my Sea Dream. Do you have Sea Dream Reldon?

I will not comment on the tree skirt except to wonder what that tree has to hide...
I sort-of accidentally ended up with American Dream in a pretty sunny, pretty central spot in my landscape. I've been impressed with its size and the quality of its color and leaf texture - especially in the first part of the season.
I also have Sea Dream. They do appear similar in some respects. American Dream has been much more vigorous and has established a much larger clump.
American Dream is a Van Wade sport from High Fat Cream and is listed as a 24" x 65" Sea Dream is listed at 20" x 55" and has Neat Splash heritage.

I think he implied that it's a cliche', sort of overdone.
If you like it, go for it.
