What is wrong with my Fried Green Tomatoes?

Post by Kittenann »

Does anyone have any idea why my Fried Green Tomatoes is so ugly. Frost damage? Damaged before emerging from the ground? The dreadded virus? I planted it last summer.

My guess is frost / cold wet slow emergence... I've got lots showing similar and worse damage. If you had a late spring as we did here in Minnesota, I think that is the likely source of the damage...

I think one of the first leaves up got nipped by some frost. Give it a nice drink of alfalfa tea and I bet it will make strides for you in no time. Cut the ugly leaf off.... but make sure you disinfect your cutting shears before and after.

Read this for proper cleaning of tools - wish I had before I cut some damaged leaves off...
