Blue Ivory-must have!

Post by R. Rock »

Hi,
My Blue Ivory is starting to unfurl. It is going to be an exceptional must have. Halycon background. It does differ significantly from el nino and first frost. The substance is near "rubber". The margin also very wide as a young plant. Most wider margins come w/ age; this is right out of the shoot. I think the "veins" on this one are going to also stand out, (example-atlantis). It can only get better w/ time. Blue/green interior w/ a WIDE cream margin. Sorry no picture right now. Chris has some.

It caught my eye because I'm a sucker for any hosta in the Halcyon family. But I'm kind of concerned about the white edge turning green in the summer heat and all...just not sure I'd be crazy about the look of that.

Deja Blu is blue with a green margin and lovely; so even if the margin on Blue Ivory turned green, I bet it would still be pretty. I found a couple of pics through a Google search and added it to my list immediately when I found out it wasn't huge.

First I heard about the margin turning green; are you sure Noreaster?

p.s. those suttle varieagations such as Sentimental Journey, Dark Shadows,Rascal, etc. are really awesome the more I see of such. There is a "calm cameleon" associated w/ them.

My El Nino holds the white edge well and is in alot of sun and bright light.

Yes, I've read that about the margins turning color in a couple descriptions of Blue Ivory. I don't have any hosta that do that, so I wasn't sure if I'd like it...but actually, now that I think about it, Thunderbolt kind of does it and it doesn't really bother me.

I googled Blue Ivory and saw some pics of "Great Escape"...both Halcyon sports with broad white margins. Wonder if they are basically the same plant?

In the Naylor Creek catalog description for 'Great Escape' it says "(Possibly the same plant as H. 'Blue Ivory')".

I hadn't paid any attention to this one until now, but after seeing a pic... I'm thinking I might need one of these.

I don't believe the white margin will turn solid green...more like misted with green.
