Praying Hands question...

Post by jgh »

As I've stated before, I'm a fan of PH and am glad it was selected Hosta of the Year (for 2011... am I remembering that right???)

Anyway, I have an eye that appears to be sporting/reverting and I tried to find out more about the origins of PH. Was surprised to see that it was registered by G. Williams in Lake Hubert, MN. That's cabin country up in Minnesota's north lake country - most of the hostas get eaten by deer and people frequently give up on them.

Anyway, parentage is just "unknown." Anybody know if there is a name for "not Praying Hands" - where the leaves are more rounded and don't roll up? Anybody else have this sport?

Hi jgh

yes i had some eyes that showed the same behaviour. For me they look a lot like a fortunei type of plant, maybe something like Hyacinthina in background. They look a bit like an all green sport of Whirlwind (Second Wind) and show the same massive substance. Any other ideas? Greets planwerk

I was under the impression that it was a Fortuenea sport hope that means it can be a good grower like its parent

I thought Praying Hands was found in a green house and bought for $4 and it parentage is unknown.
