Early vs Late to emerge
In light of everything being ahead of schedule; I'm already trying to figure out what I lost over the winter. I had planted a strong single eye of Paradigm last August in a spot that has been good for other hosta in the past. It is one of the only one's I'm not seeing at least the hint of an eye. Is Paradigm usually late to emerge? Also - Cheatin Heart - late to emerge? I should have noted last year if it was one of the later ones.

I'm in zone 5, and for the two you mentioned, I have both of them in pretty deep shade . . . Paradigm is usually late for me, but Cheatin' Heart is already up and starting to unfurl. I hope yours show up and weren't eaten by anyone over the winter. After way to many near-panics when I thought something was lost, I'm finally starting to remember which ones are chronically late to show their noses, so I just remind myself to be patient and they will show up when they're ready! Invincible is very late for me, every year I think I've lost it, then it finally breaks through.

It is is one of the last ones to come up for me too. and I'm in Zone 9! Most of mine have been up for 6 weeks, and Paradigm just broke through about a week ago. Magic Fire and Liberty are taking their time too, while their relative Sagae is always among the first to show. In a normal weather year there is about a month between the first to pop up and the last. This year we have had very warm spell followed by a colder than normal few weeks. The ones that were already up kept coming along, but the last 1/3 of mine just sat there with eyes showing about 1/2". It is as if the emerging ones are in slow motion right now.

My Guacolmole has not shown any eyes yet and all my others are up and unfurled completely
I have only had it two years and I cannot remember if it is a late one or not. Is it a late bloomer?

How do you figure my Guacolmole is up the most of all my hosta.

Hmmm... hope that dosn't mean I lost it over the winter. Guess it is time to do some exploring for eyes!

Re: Early vs Late to emerge
I have 3 Guacamoles, and they are all at different stages of being up. One thing that I have noticed is that when I have had Guacamole in a pot over winter, it has been very subject to freeze/thaw damage. I actually took the one that was in a pot and threw it in the ground to over winter this past year because of previous year's damage. That said, Guacamole and Stained Glass are the two that are usually up first for me.
Cheatin' Heart showed up today - just a couple of tiny eyes, but they are there. I'll be patient and wait for Paradigm.
