Is it really truly that blue in the garden? I'm going to add this to my wish list and keep an eye out for it. Thanks for sharing, I wasn't familiar with this at all :)

Absolutely. There are no Photoshop tricks on this image at all. It was shot in Olga's garden 2 years ago.

Now that is a stunning blue. I was like Chris, sure that the color had been enhanced. Wonder if it would stay that blue at my house? Does it stay in deep shade?

Man, I can't believe it either!

So CHRIS? Can we put our order in for one BEFORE you find where you can get them? :)

Okay, obviously I had heard of Blue Hawaii before, and already ordered it, since the TCs came yesterday

Of course, as a greenhouse grown baby it looks nothing like the picture. And from the size of them I would expect to have them in the 2008 catalog. We have fairly dense shade in the back of the growing areas so that's where they will go. I'll be sure to put them next to a bright yellow :)

Cool! And wouldn't they go great with GrannyNanny's Yellows? :)

This one was new to me this past year and it really impressed me. The color held most of the year and the plants looked great til frost. I don't think you can go wrong with any of Olga's plants!

Where did you get yours Josh? I bought some from Shady Oaks in the spring of 2006 and they've grown fine, but they aren't that blue. They are blue-green, but heck, even Camelot growing near them were just as blue. The color also did not hold for very long. Not long after the picture was taken they were even more greenish. Hadspen Blue was close by and was very blue, then Silver Bay a couple rows over were drop dead gorgeous blue, and even Salute was a very attractive blue.

I wonder what's up with these plants. :hmm:

Needless to say they won't hit our catalog any time soon the way they are. I really wanted them to look like Hosta Designer's picture but it just wasn't to be :(

The plant indicated by the arrow (in the upper right background) is supposed to be Blue Hawaii. The lower left blue row is Hadspen Blue and the foreground right row is Salute.

Mine came from Naylor Creek, Chris. I'm guessing they originally came from Shady Oaks, but these were really good sized plants. Maybe 2 years from TC?? Maybe the color will improve with age?

I'm kicking myself for not getting a picture of them! I'd say the color was comparable to the blue of the Hadspen Blue in your picture.

Thanks Josh. I watched them for 2 growing seasons without any change, so I think I'll ask Shady Oaks what they think about them. In the meantime I might try moving a couple to different locations to see if lighting makes any difference. If they really turn out to be Blue Hawaii they will be huge by the time I'm done sitting on them a 3rd year!

When I was complaining about losing the only 2 trees in my back yard where a huge hosta bed was supposed to go last spring, someone on this forum said to go ahead and plant. She said the sun would make the blues able to produce more wax, then when they're planted in the shade they'll be really blue because of the greater wax production.
Wonder if Olga's are getting a fair amount of sun.
