Any time I see the old book on Ebay it's listed over $100, so $95 is a bargin, lol. Still beyond my reach for a book - even that one.

I'm not selling my hosta handbook...not to worry. :D

I picked up 2 new copies at a garden center closeout. I had seen them sell on Amazon and Ebay for over $125 last summer. I thought $95 would be a bargain for someone, and I was paying shipping. I'll have to try again later or something...Just trying to raise a little spring hosta money.

OK then, Charla, you're off my hook. FYI the new book is called 'The Hostapedia', has 1900 color photos, and weighs 10#. Mark said yesterday it's due off the press the last week in March.

a few more notes about the hefty new tome... it is 9" x 12", has 1128 pages, and the list retail price is $79.95.

From Q&Z - "Over 7400 hosta descriptions listed A-Z... Complete index of hosta names... Factual and Entertaining... Most definitive work on hostas in print and a must for every collector, nurseryman and gardener"

Wholesale buyers are being given a reasonable discount on this, though the shipping is hefty... might want to see if Chris is going to carry it. When the old book , the Handbook, was still in print, the wholesale discount was good enough that you saw some discounts from retailers on new copies. Wouldn't be surprised to see the Hostapedia selling for $70-75 on Amazon or from some nurseries.

My memory might be faulty, but I believe that right about the time the Handbook was going out of print, Chris actually put them on sale and moved all his out. I know the few extra copies I had went to people for well below the cover price. Bet Chris wishes he'd put those last 10 copies or so in a drawer so he could sell them now at $100 a piece or so - I know I do!

I have ordered quite a few to sell here. Between the shipping to Canada and the dollar exchange, they will be a bit more pricey here. Still, I had enough customers asking last year to get them one that I thought I'd bring in a few more.
I kept one of the old Hosta Handbooks that has never been opened. I thought about putting it on ebay, but I just haven't been able to part with it yet. It just sits there in a box reminding me every once in a while that it's there. Maybe I'm keeping it just in case mine falls apart from over-usage one day.
I am looking forward to seeing the new book. The sample page that I saw is really very nice. I like that he gives an idea of how available in the community each hosta is.

Current available date is now sometime in April. The best deal I've seen is from WebWalkWay, where the first 12 copies sold will be autographed by Mark, and the price is very good, especially if you live close enough to pick up the book when you hit her hosta sales. Shipping is indeed horrendous--$7.00 media rate in the US, and that's actual cost, with nothing added for packing and handling. But it's a huge, heavy book, so there's not much to be done about the shipping costs. I'm hoping that my local library gets at least one copy for those who really can't afford to buy the book. If you live in an area with lots of hosta people, you might suggest to your local library that they order the book--many libraries rely heavily on user input when they add to their collections.
