Question about Malus Sargent Tina

Post by hostaaddict »

Yesterday, after three days of going to nurseries in above 90 degreee heat, I finally settled on this small crabapple tree. It was kind of expensive but had the small size I wanted to go in a new bed and also wanted something that flowered. We had other shopping to do but was afraid it would be too hot in the car for it, so most of the time we either had the air on or were parked in the shade with windows open. I remember the leaves were kind of curled on all 4 of these trees at the nursery and now that I have it home I am starting to worry about it. I have watered it well. It is in the large pot it came in. I have sprayed the leaves twice today. Do you think I need to worry about it? Was too hot today to get it planted so I have it in the front shade garden. thanks! ...Jackie

Jackie, what did you spray it with? How are the leaves looking now? I would definitely wait until it cools off before planting it, but that's just me. And I only mean when it isn't 95 degrees or something. I would have been afraid to spray it. I bet it was just dry in it's pot...and had gotten dry a few times at the nursery. I hope it's doing well at your home! :)

Dee, I just misted it with the garden hose a couple times a day and left it sitting in the shade garden. It has cooled down here today and we have had light rain most of the day. It is looking much better and so far no leaves have dropped. we plan to get it in the ground tomorrow. It was really hot at the nursery the day I bought it.

Good deal! I thought you meant you sprayed it with a chemical...like a fungicide or something. Don't mind me...just a blonde moment! I'm glad it's doing better. I just love crabapple trees. :D
