I have a confused Viburnum - never seen one flowering this late (or maybe it thinks that it's early)

I'm starting to think that this strangely warm winter is going to really confuse a lot of things. My Viburnum carlesii tend to bud and try to open way too early and get zapped by a hard freeze almost every year. I'm not sure if I just need to find a more sheltered spot or maybe somewhere out of the southern sun, at least...
