Sam, that a very pretty one. The color is fantastic, especially in the fertile flowers.

Those are beautiful!!! Love the colors!

Mine are all screwed up this year . . . my burgundy one is very pale pink, almost white. My Nikko Blue is pink. My Endless Summer is kind of pink.

At least my Annabelle's are white like they are supposed to be.

Do you treat yours for color? (Obviously I don't!!)

Jane, yep I did add aluminum sulfate to the soil for Nachtigall and Matilda Gutges. I also put grass clippings and coffee grounds around them to try to lower the pH.

The pink one, Rotschwanz, is in a container. I thought it would be a deeper color than it is. With aluminum sulfate and a low pH I think it would be a deep mauve color.

Wow :o I am so envious of all the varieties you can grow. And the blues - I LOVE the blues

I have never added anything to the soil to improve colour
This is a deep blue lacecap
Strangely, one of my bushes has both blue and pink flowers on it this past few years. I see it is the same this year again. Makes ya wonder???? :-?

How quickly will an aluminum treatment change the color? Will it work with blooms (bracts) just opening? or do I have to wait next year for my Blue Wave to be blue?

This is the first year since they went in (4 years ago) that we're getting half-way decent blooming (as in 8 heads). They too often get their tips nibbled by deer and/or rabbits.

Tigger, it won't have an effect on the bracts about to bloom. I believe it takes several months. Here's a site with great information on hydrangeas and changing the color of the blooms http://www.hydrangeashydrangeas.com

Tigger, I forgot to say that last summer I had one bloom on Blue Wave probably because we had 5 or 6 nights below zero with daytime highs in the teens that previous winter. This year it has tons of blooms.

Sam, that is a beauty!

OED, I like the lacecaps much more than the mopheads.
