Hallson Gardens

Last year I was pretty much starting with a plain grass lawn. Wanted to do some landscaping/gardens, etc. This is where I stand so far. Pictures may leave a little to be desired, as some of the plants blend together. Still have some things to do, but with a couple weddings and college graduations, etc, maintenance pretty much is all that is happening this year.

Second bed, new this year. Most are transplants from a small bed that didn't work out well.

Small bridge over a creek. Planted some specimens to hopefully take over and choke out some weeds/creek growth.

Main entry as coming up the drive.

Base of an old mulberry tree. Kind of adds a little interest.

This used to be our vegetable garden last year. Didn't like that so we put a flower bed in this year. They have a tough life. Rabbits and deer visit regularly. I think a window box would look nice. Only thing is I'd have to water it daily.

Out by the mailbox, at the end of the drive. Did this last year and it came back very nicely. Going to rip out climbing roses on the other side of the drive and do the same thing over there. Just have to decide what I am going to do with the roses. Any thoughts???

Don't know how big the roses are, but instead of a window box you could put a small trellis under that window and have the roses climb it? Just a thought.
And your beds are looking very nice! You look like you have a nice sized property to deal with.

Russian sage is sooo pretty!

Here is the Mulberry tree with a bit of altering that I did last year. My brother-in-law just loves this tree and I framed this for him for X-mas. Kind of an old, ominous tree.

I like the idea of a small trellis for the roses, because you can always prune roses to fit into any space, and they will come back.

Also, mybe some pink cone flowers mixed in with your Russian Sage, since they also have a height that goes well with the sage. And it seems to bloom about the same time.

Or maybe for the climbing roses, depending on how tall and bushy they get, a small pergola with the roses coming up on either side. I just sunk 4 posts (landscape timbers) and put cross bars on the top, with lattice on the sides. Then I put a large planting pot in the center, and it gets shade from whatever is growing up the sides. That way I can put annuals in the pot for constant color.
