Old but still learning
Those are gorgeous! I really love the first one a lot.
I have several in bloom right now, but my camera is fercockt and the new one hasn't arrived yet. All of mine are phals except for one dend that I rescued from HD, but it hasn't bloomed yet. Hopefully I will have photos in the next week or so (the camera I ordered is on backorder

orchid
caliloo the first bloom is a Cattleya. If you look at the second bloom in the centre you will see a bird with his belly facing you his two wings up his head with beak and two eyes and thats a Phal by the way. When someone asked how many orchids do you have I said I've never counted them but between 30 and 50 well I finally counted them,I have 39 mostly Cattleyas some Lalias a few Phals and dendrobiums

Gorgeous photos! THanks for posting them.
So I now I need a Cattleya. I have a south facing window that should provide enough light, but I am concerned about the humidity requirements. Will they survive in a home with average humidity if I put it on a tray of wet pebbles?
Also - my resources are limited (think CHEAP!) so is it worth it to try one of those bagged things from Lowe's as a first shot? I would hate to lay out a large sum of $$$ just to kill it.
Ohhhhh - I knew buying that first orchid at the grocery store was a mistake... I feel a new obsession coming on

Orchids
caliloo Mine dont get any special treatment some are in long basement windows where its 60 daytime and 50 night time, all others are on plant stands with it being 75 to 80 daytime and night time. they get a soaking every 3 to 4 weeks but nothing else. The only thing with Cattleyas they only bloom once a year.in the summer all my orchids get hung on the fence in semi shade except the Phals, they stay in the house. If you have an orchid dealer near you you shoud be able to get a grown plant for 10 to 15 dollars
