Wow! I got to sit right next to the feeders outside today. The Pine Siskins came right up to me, as did the Chickadees. And I've got this strange guy, too. Is he a Nuthatch?

And look at the markings on those Siskins. What gorgeous little birds.

Doris, put an old shirt sleeve on a broom handle and a glove on the end. Rest i on the bench you sit on. Put some seed in that and get the birds used to it. When that happens, get them used to you sitting next to the sleeve/glove. Next step is to put your own arm/hand in the sleeve/glove. From there, progress to sitting with your bare hand in the same spot. It wont take very long and they'll be eating out of your hands. Then VERY quickly close yo.......er.....forget the last part.

:wink
YOu could also put out a wide brimed garden hat to be used as a feeder. After they get accustomed to eating out of the brim, you can put the hat on. By next fall, you could be burried in bird "stuff".

Take pics for us.

These are really nice photos, Doris. I love Pine Siskens but never have gotten a photo of the many we have here. My work with the camera leaves a lot to be desired.

What kind of feed is that?

It's a mix I buy that's supposed to be weed free. It contains sunflower chips, cracked corn, peanuts, oat groats, and thistle. They're eating it up fast!
