Red bark dogwood

A neighbor has what he calls a red bark dogwood. There are several new shoots around the main plant and he has invited me to dig one of them for my yard. When is the right time for digging and are there any special preparations I should make for the dogwood?

Cornus Alba Sibirica

It roots very easily, even from a stick just like willow
This time of year is just fine. Take two or three cuttings and stick them about a foot into the ground and watch them grow

The best red color comes from new shoots. It's a good idea to prune out older shoots every year.

Once this crazy weather is over I'm going to get some cuttings from the redwood.

We call this "red-twig dogwood".

It's a nice shrub that provides that beautiful deep red color in the winter landscape. It grows wild in several areas here....I like to add several branches with pine and fancy Christmas greens in arrangements......and it looks nice in winter window boxes. Grows very easy!.......p
