ranking updated

34 votes ... with 50 votes we would probably have a list with even more distance between the best ones.

At the moment, June triumps with a rather comfortable margin, but in between Blue Mouse Ears and Sagae things are still undecided...
Perhaps you can decide between silver and bronze?

 I have been looking for this poll for weeks... and here it was on top of the forum and sticky

Somewhere i have the list to AHS- just can't find it

Sure aren't the same, but some are- every time :D

Lets start:

June those colors in the shade... you need more than one

BME Just too cute and everything fit together

Crispula-- old is but good is, it can rain or shine it is still dark greenwith pure white and lovely edges

Warpaint... wonder why? look at it in spring.. give it some shade and the colors will last longer

Orange Marmelade -- the color is orange in full sun in my garden

ventricosa... dark, dark green - rippled edges and again as an oldie, so extremly cheap

tokudama flavocircinalis... those heavyfat leafs, bumbled and intense in the colors

Regal Splendor .- vase shaped and Regal

Queen of the seas... those wavy soft blue edges.. you are sold

Kiwi Full Monthy.. Loved it from the day I saw it on Chris's list and even more in the garden.. just beautiful

Christmas Pageant.. this one takes its time, but it is fat and georgeous as adult... dout me...test it

Praying Hands - just so special and easy to use everywhere... still want one in blue ... and one in yellow and....

Whirlwind... easy, fun and beautiful

Blue Íce...the blue color is so intense... good in the window box for a sprinng fix

Hey.. big problem here ..can I say tardianas... lol so many of them are so similar and the new ones closes the few holes in the line... OK.. one only... Camelot ... in full sun here and it is beautiful... checking some new ones too..ask me in a year or two

Have to think a bit.......

Adding > Crumbles... look at those small green leaves full of bumbles.. never get tired of this one

Manhattan... different shape of the ones I normaly like.. this one is broad and low, but the green color, the shape and edges ..and once again the bumbles makes a special hosta to me..

El Nino... so clear in the blue color and with a bright white edge, just stunning

Sugar, Sagae and Liberty are so much alike. If I didn't have Liberty, I would have voted for Sagae. Combining their vote totals would drop June to 2nd place. :-? It's fun to wonder why people chose what they did.

Not if you take into account those voting for both Sagae and Liberty
It's fun to wonder why people chose what they did.
There are different factors, and everybody will have its own criteria I guess.

Thanks for voting everyone!

It's neat to look back at the old list and compare it to the new. Here are a few notes just compared to one year ago:

The top three hostas have stayed the same, just changed order slightly: June, Blue Mouse Ears, and Sagae are still the top 3.

Niagara Falls has moved up from 11th place to 4th place., and Guardian Angel and Earth Angel didn't even make the list last year but GA is now 5th with Liberty and Earth Angel is 16th, so these all seem to be improving with age.

First Frost also has moved up in popularity and Paradigm moved up too.

Sum and Substance used to be higher on the list and has dropped down a little.

While the big guys get most of the attention we have some minis showing up. We had Pandora's Box before, but now we also have Cameo and Dragon Tails on the list, along with a few others.

Related plants see repeated popularity.

From the Halcyon family with have June, Touch of Class, First Frost, El Nino, Devon Green, and Halcyon on the list.

We have Regal Splendor, Krossa Regal, and Tom Schmid together on the list.

We have Blue Angel, Guardian Angel, and Earth Angel.

We have Niagara Falls and War Paint; Liberty and Sagae.

There is plantaginea, Guacamole, Cathedral Windows, Holy Mole, Fried Green Tomatoes, and Stained Glass on the list.

We have Gold Standard, Striptease, Hanky Panky, Gypsy Rose, and Kiwi Full Monty on the list.

Piecrust edged plants continue to be popular: Emerald Ruff Cut, Niagara Falls, War Paint, Clovelly, Spring Fling, Queen of the Seas, Permanent Wave, Manhatten, and probably some others too.

From looking at what is popular can help a nursery owner like myself decide what to grow or add, can help a gardener pick out what to buy, and can also help a hybridizer look to the future. Thanks for taking the time to put together the list again Tom!

Thank you...Sugar !!! :D

Others may chime in, but i do not think the list will change much.

Thank you Chris for the year by year follow up :D

Lots of blue ones on the list and some great oldies still are goodies

BME have been the family rocket ... it is still rather new

Some hefty changes compared to last year.
Second : a confirmation of 'regional' differences, some plants seem to be popular in Europe but not that wide-spread or popular in the US (and probably vice-versa).

Well that is only correct as long as not everybody has the plant allready in the garden ;) I think the plants that are rising in the charts are the ones to grow...
