Got my signed copy of Hostapedia - Yipeee!!!

Post by Pandora »

My DH bought it for me as a complete surprise!
When he ordered it I had not even heard of it.
I am probably too frugal to buy it, but that is why he gets me some
of the gifts he does.

Oh, it is a cold and dreary afternoon and evening and perfect
for this wonderful book.
:D :D  :D :D

What a wonderful gift, Pandora!! That DH of yours....what a guy!
It looks like we will have rain for a few days, so that should give you plenty of time to curl up with that book. :D

Newtohosta, thanks. He really surprises me sometimes, and I think he is not paying attention.

Woodthrush, it came in a box as big as a suitcase. It is a gorgeous book and it won't be seeing the garden dirt.

Pam..I hope you enjoy yours too. It sure does sound like a massive volume! :o
From all the raves I see on here it sure does look like it's well worth the price.
Again...enjoy! :D

What a great gift! I would be shocked beyond recovery if my DH ever thought of something like that!
I'm picking my copy up today. Guess whose light will be on late into the night......

Just some more info on the book
It weighs over 10 lbs
9" x 12" and slightly over 2" thick
lists 7400 hostas alphabetically
1897 color photos
complete index of hosta names
lots of info on hybridizing, how hostas are names, plant patent's, breeders rights, trade marks, etc.
You can certainly see why we waited so long for Mark to finish this book!

lol - the only drawback for me is it's so darn heavy, I have to sit at the desk or table to look through it.
You can't hold this book in your lap or in your hands for very long - lol

I got mine a few days ago too
What a book - so complete, but I agree about the weight and general awkwardness of handling it. I really wixsh it had been bound in two or three volumes and sold as a set - more expensive, but soooo much easier to handle.
AM really enjoying it. Every day I sit down, read a little and then browse for a while... so many hostas, so little time, space, money.....

I'm going to be at Q & Z in May so I'll pick some up when I am there to save on shipping. Sounds like a massive book! We will probably not sell them by mail but will likely offer them here at the nursery.

However, it is tough waiting another month to get my own after hearing about it
