Green, anyone, or blue, or yellow?

White is not my favorite color, especially as the backdrop to my garden. I NEED to see some green!

Add some green, or blue, or yellow from your garden! It's time to fight the white!!!!

Pia, All the way back on the right is Niagara Falls. It is not quite so blue as it looks here.
On the left is Elatior. The blue next to Cascades down in front is Twilight Time.
Reldon took a picture of it last summer, and said it's the largest Twilight Time that
he remembers seeing. It's far bigger than I thought it was supposed to get, or I
would have given it more room.
By the way, if you put your cursor over the pictures, the tag will tell you that's Radio
Waves next to Cascades...not true. I don't know why I labelled it wrong...at least in
giving it the wrong name, I picked one from the same hybridizer, Mr. Greg Johnson.

Jim, I may have been spending too much time with my 2-yr old foster grandaughter.
And yes, it probably is cabin fever. I didn't even notice the mispelling.
Cowboy, those pictures are great! It warms my heart to see such lovely hostas.
Does anyone else have any more geen...er....GREEN to add?

I suspect some of our younger readers may not be familiar with our friend Ed from Wisconsin... though he enjoyed digging in the dirt and collecting, I don't believe he was active in the hosta field...

Oh Linda! It's always a great time to see pics of your beautiful garden,but especially now when everything is covered in snow. Is it too early for me to be wishing for Spring to hurry up and arrive?

No, Joan, not too early at all! It seems like winter has been here for months already. There's more snow on the way today, and a possible storm for us in N. Illinois just in time for Christmas Eve. Folks out west and in the lake effect areas are measuing the snow in feet, heavy rains making landslides on the west coast...
Come on Spring!!!


This bed is on the other side of the walk by the ash tree bed. There's a better view of that giant Elatior. I measured it last summer at something over 8 feet across. It started life here as a tiny little TC liner in 2001. Mel, the one by the old cedar stump is Niagara Falls, a better color match on this pic to the real plant.

Anyone else have pics ready to post to help ease the winter separation anxiety?

This baby needs to move to a different spot this year. It's at the edge of the mini-bed and is about to overwhelm the little guys. Ginsu Knife also has outgrown this bed.

This is a fairly new bed. I had NO clue that Gunsmoke could get this big...it's a monster. Back there in the middle is Queen of the Seas, and behind it is Cutting Edge and Tidewater. If I grow the seeds from any plant in this area, I should have a more than even chance of getting some nice ruffles on the seedlings.

Linda your Dancing Queen is the nicest one I've seen yet. I had to go back and check my records to see how old mine is, since it is nowhere near the size of your DQ. Looks like mine is three going on four in the garden, wondering if yours is much older?

Eileen, I got it in '07. It really took off the last year, possibly due to the fact that we've had two summers now of far above average rainfall. It gets a good deal of light here, and 2-3 hours of mid-day sun. It does seem to be a somewhat slow growing one, but is supposed to be a large plant. It is definitely a wide-spreader, covers a lot of ground. I just hope I didn't wait too long to move it..planned to get to it last summer. I may end up moving all the smalls and minis that are around it and leave it there! It would be easier on the back. Also, it was so lovely last year, that I don't want to set it back with a stressful move. If I can pop it out with a big ball of soil, I'll go for it, otherwise it's a mini-move!!!

shows off from the driveway here, and I can also see if from the chair at my computer desk.
Does it sound like I'm talking myself into moving those minis?

If you don't mind me saying so, I think when you're dealing with entry points to the garden or to individual beds, you need to maximize the impact of that spot... creating a grand entrance, in architectural terms. I don't think you could create a grand entrance with minis. I say they have to move! And if it's part of your focal point at your computer desk, that seals the deal.

Those babies need to move someplace where they can be appreciated close up!
