Re: Hallson Summer Hosta Swap

I may have been at that talk by Mark Zilis when he brought a bunch of little plants to show, at Peter Ruh's. I have been there to hear him talk several times. It is only about 15 minutes from my house.

Re: Hallson Summer Hosta Swap

Linda, A couple notes I didn't have time to write: The Twister was mailed to me out of the blue by Marvelous Marlys (Marlys Anderson) a few years ago, she has since passed on as you may know, almost 2 years ago. I guess I must have admired it while I was with her one convention and it just showed up...

Re: Hallson Summer Hosta Swap

I receieved my package Wednesday afternoon, sent by Rose of Oquawka, IL, alias "Roseyposey", shipped from Hallson's. I received; 1. 'Wishing Well' which is a blue cupped one hybridized by Don Dean whilch I will use in my Hybridizing program. Supposed to hold the blue a long time into the summer, and...

Re: Hallson Summer Hosta Swap

Mike I am still doing a lot of hybridizing, just not posting about it much since so many others are doing the same. I do have my name on a Hosta now though, in collaboration with Chris, 'Summer Rainbow' is a joint registration/venture, a sport of Winter Snow. Not a seedling, but I do have a lot of h...

It's been a long time since I've done this, always fun.
I will have to update my list, which I stopped trying to keep up with several years ago.

Re: Yet another nematode discussion

About 4 years ago I divorced and moved my entire collection twice in 1.5 years, in pots dug from the ground, overwintering him. When I found nems I was able to immediately quarantine them. I practiced using the heat (water bath) treatment and found it 100% effective, but very inconvenient and occasi...

Re: Francee Streaked

Fertility is pretty important in a streaked plant. All streakers are harder to come by than stable plants because they are hard to mass produce. The best way I would recommend to obtain streaked fertile hostas is to get seeds from good fertile breeder plants and grow as many of your own as you can. ...

I have several nice seedlings from Guacamole and Fragrant Bouquet O.P. They are fragrant with light purple big flowers.
Go for it!

Re: ID Challenge - 11 different forms - picture heavy!

I want to echo Paul that #2 is not Ginko Craig, because the flowers are not dark purple enough. Fertility is easy to tell. I think GK also is a late bloomer and Undulata is early season.

Re: Must have "Broodstock" and other breeding questions...

You have to look at the flowers to see which ones have petals starting to open at night. You might have to open some yourself. You can pollinate very late at night but you will have to collect your pollen the day before because the anthers won't be open on the new flowers, and if you wait until late...

Re: Obtaining streakers

My best seedlings are solid colors with neat shapes, flowers or colors. These are favorites for me when I can see the traits of both parents combined into a unique plant. My best streaked breeder plants are from seed sent to me from friends on the forum. I have bought or been given pieces of streake...

Re: Sum and Substance / Gunthers Prize

Scooter I have a variegated seedling that came from a streaked Winter Snow. It's nothing special, still very small after 2 or 3 years. So the Sum and Substance family can produce variegated seedlings.

This is a seedling from Jewel of the Nile, which had a few yellow streaks in years past. I am loving the new sport from the seedling with the yellow center. One eye is all the same. Another eye has a few streaks, the other eyes are solid green.
