Re: New to Iris, what type of Soil for poting?
When I recieve new rhizomes in the summer, I will pot them up in Miracle-Gro potting soil. I would use the organic form of MG if I could find it. To much nitrogen can lead to rot. But they're only potted up until the fall when I move them to their permanent beds. Schreiners say's to mix a little sup...

Re: Iris rhizomes
They should do just fine. Iris are very tough. I would mix a little super phosphate in with the soil to give the new roots that will form soon, a little boost. When the center leaf on the fan starts growing, you will know the roots are growing also.

Re: Electrifying, SDB
On one web a person was recommending bone meal for Iris is this the best approach?Mine need stimulation don't look vigorous enough. I've always steered clear of bone meal. I'm always afraid critters will pick up on it's odor and dig up rhizomes trying to get to it. A local commercial iris grower he...

First TB of the Year, "Stolen Sweets"
This iris is listed by Mid-America Iris at Mid-Late bloomer. It bloomed before one SDB and several IB's. It has a fragrance to die for and gilt-rims really sets it apart. I highly recommend this one! STOLEN SWEETS 2009, Paul Black ‘Stolen Sweets’ (Paul Black, R. 2009). Sdlg. M13BB . TB, 35”(89 cm), ...

My favorite time of the year (except for all these storms). SDB's are finishing up, IB's are in full swing, and TB's are just getting started. We'll start with some favorite SDB's from this year. Re: Frosted Velvet, MTB
This one is so cute but it just refuses to grow for me. I have had it for probably 8 years and have seen it bloom maybe twice. Amoenas are my favorites, and I love MTBs too. Wish it did better here. I'm sure you already tried this. But have you tried growing it in another bed? Some times that's all...
