$5 No Name Hosta
This hosta was purchased 10 years ago at a Hallson's event when we toured that big hosta nursery in Jackson. It' stands out as the largest hosta in my yard, easily 6' across and taller than a yardstick. Doncha love those big ones?

Re: Planting hosta
Hi Jan, It's great that you still have space for any more plants in your yard. Your new plants look awesome. I miss the days when we did group hosta shopping, checking out multiple nurseries in a day, and splitting those babies 4=5 ways.

Re: Ten Positive Things About Chemotherapy
Well said, Phyllis. As a survivor myself, almost 2 years now (ovarian cancer, stage 4) I absolutely loved wearing my wig, always looked better and was easier to care for than the real thing. And I was secretly thrilled weighing in at 99 lbs., a goal I had tried to attain for the last 50 years! Lucki...

Is that where you got your user ID from, Ellen? It's so descriptive, and very interesting. Thanks for sharing.

Zounds or Golden Sunburst?
Funny thing, Chris. My two Zounds are doing the same thing, and Dr. Dave took one look at them last summer and said they were probably Golden Sunburst. Many of my hostas already have sun-burnt spots

Re: Streaker that stabilizes.....
Speaking of Goddess of Athena, I bought it 3 years ago just for those seeds. Must be some kind of dud for it produces many seeds but seedlings are all green. Anyone have any luck with this one?

I am impressed with all your seedlings and your set up. Two questions? Are you mulching with moss? And how do you keep the leaves out and your tags in place?

I would guess that the soil got washed away with heavy rain or if your soil contains lots of organic matter, it decomposed, leaving the crowns high and dry. Add more soil.

Re: Slugs are out!
Has anyone used wood ashes to deter slugs? I collected some Saturday from my son's house and plan to sprinkle them around the crowns.
Yet I don't like the way DH chuckled when I told him my ashes were in the trunk of his car.

Just one? I find 3 or 4 under every clump of leaves I turn over. They're just lovin' my compost and mulch.

It's disgusting to look at. There's got to be an prohibiting ordinance. You're in Portland, aren't you?
