tHE BIGGUNS!!

Hi, Andrea I was looking over your list to see which of the big guys you have, after you dicovered we have a love of Jade Cascade in common. This is the most exquisite hosta and King Michael is nothing to scoff at, either! You have quite a few that I have. I do have fluctuans and Green Acres, and I ...

This year I added some planting boxes for many of the seedlings that I grew over the winter- six of them, 3' x 5' x 10"- bottom covered with hardware cloth to keep out the voles. I also added a large bed along my driveway 25' x 3'. I planted about 30 hosta, 6 Brugmansias, and some butterfly bushes o...

Jane

Nice pictures and good info to have about the perilla!

I've noticed how easily the cuttings root but can you explain why the markings change on the cuttings?

Thanks!!

Chris-

One more thing. I'm usually on the hosta forum but my interest in Hellebore brought me over here lately.

Would you mind posting this on the hosta forum, as tricyrtis are such popular companions for hosta!

Thanks!

Well, Chris Looks like I have it in my plants, as I ordered from you last year. Don't know how long it will take to spread through my original plants but since distance doesn't seem to have made a difference in the spread, and mine are sometimes much closer than 20' apart, I'll just have ot wait and...

Chris Is this the hosta Walden that is being referred to in the first post? I found it for sale at a nursery in NC- Jones Nursery. They have introduced quite a few hostas into the market, some nice one, like Fat Cheeks. Walden looks a little strange. They describe it as looking like bleach has been ...

Wholyhosta hosta pages

(I'm posting my hosta list/ trade list combined below). I have many more plants than the hostas listed below, due to dividing over the years with my original 20-30 varieites, which is what I had before winter 2004-2005. If you look at my list, you can see that I got the bug bad this last winter and ...

JD I'll have to go home and look tonight and let you know- I know some are germinating well and I think yours are. Also, Alexa's are doing well. I need to keep a better seed/seedling journal- seem like all I do now is pick out the youngsters and pot them up- that and watering, watering! I have more ...

Hi, folks! I have various seed sources this year and some batches from a particular source are germinating faster than other batches. I new to this, so have no past reference point but was wondering about how some are so slow to show! My own seeds seem to germinate fairly quickly- I'm using them as ...

Chris Did you say that 100% of the Patriot, Minuteman and Halcyon samples you had tested came back HVX POSITIVE? Sorry, your worries just seem to be increasing as more varieties test positive. I still run into folks in the hosta world who dismiss or pooh-pooh all the reports. Nothing like having an ...

PUDC a victim?

This doesn't look exactly like HVX on my H. Pineapple Unside Down Cake. Is this the normal coloration on this hosta this late in the summer- does anyone know? http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b282/wholyhosta/08-03-05006.jpg The darker coloration in between the veins but it could fool someone who do...

Others have taken the words/suggestions out of my mouth. I have a favorite viburnum-Mohawk-that has a spreading habit, is very open and airy, and has 'popcorn balls' of flowers in the spring before leafing out, that start pink and open to white- they have a heavenly fragrance. Makes a small 10-12' t...

Hey, Mc- When your ext.office said they were okey, was it because they were tested? What made you suspect they might be virused? My lab test results won't be back for a week at least. Samples to County Extension office

Well, after posting this, I'm collecting my 8-10 samples to take to the CE office for delivery to the state labs tomorrow morning. I wasn't able to submit them several weeks ago, so had to 'sit' on testing them. I expect the results in a week or so. So far, no charge to me for testing- GA. 5-6 Gold ...

Also, to continue the above post, cause that's my question- besides wiping off bleach, which works faster killing virus, alcohol or bleach? I like Chris' idea using a spray bottle of alcohol- it evaporates and you don't need to wipe off -...... but is it as effective as bleach in killing virus? Also...
