That would all make sense. The leaves on the affected parts of the plants do feel somewhat sticky. I will try the sparying. Yes it is a tropical hibiscus. Thanks! :D

Tropical Hosta Problem

I have a tropical hosta that I am overwintering in my basement. I have noticed recently that it is getting sick. I am seeing black stuff, possibly a fungus, all over stems and flowers. I also noticed a lady bug. Here are some pics. Any help would be appreciated. Leaves are a little sticky too.

I am already reading up on collecting seeds and making my own plants. I hope this won't turn into something that I lose interest in.

Thanks for all the feedback. These were actually shelves that I had built. Didn't need them as shelves anymore so I enclosed with some luann and put some plastic that I can lift up in front to hold in some heat. I can lower the lights all the way down if I want. I do like the idea about doing some s...

If I had a moisture meter to stick in the soil, what kind of reading should I have to prevent the soil from becoming too moist? (Don't have a meter yet but may buy one)

I want to try doing this with geraniums, too. The soil right now is bone dry but I am still getting some blooms. Should I water it slightly to keep the soil moist? Do I need to put them under grow lights? I plan on building a mini growing area in my basement with some flourescent lights with full sp...

Well, I found two more petunias coming up that I did not plant! Can dig them up and overwinter them or use cuttings and start new plants? :D

I talked to someone at a local garden center and they already had the bags for spreading put away. I think you may be able to still get the powder but I think it is too late in the season to apply. You should be able to apply in early spring though.
