Fuschias in a Japanese garden?

I love Fuschia's and have always wanted to plant them in my yard. I have an older lemon tree that for me is the ideal spot. Would they throw off the feel of the garden? Are fushia's a japanese garden NO-NO?

Perhaps if I shape the plants verses letting them ramble?

Any thoughts?

I found this website in my search for anything Japanese Garden : http://academic.bowdoin.edu/zen/index.shtml?overview such a beautiful site to visit!! the garden tours are incredible. However, It doesnt get down to the nitty gritty on specific plants but has provided me with a better general idea on...

Since I am posting pictures...

Thought I would share a pic of one of my Ginko's, being this a Japanese Garden forum they may be appreciated. There are two in my front yard, they are about 40 years old and very tall. These trees were an intense yellow when I moved into this house. Probably why I can't recall what color my maples w...

Can you identify these maples?

This is my first year with maples so I have no idea what I have or what to do with them. I've noticed many varieties out there for sale but have yet to come across any that resemble the ones I have. Here is the purple tree as a whole. It is about 8 feet in height. http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f...

It's beautiful! The blossoms are almost as large as the plant itself.

Im excited!! I bought my first home in December and am finally able to make it MY garden. Lot's of shad...

George - great article and well deserved too. Such a premier garden you have. I've wandered through your garden quite a few times in the past months in my attempts to familiarize myself with the Japanese style. Darndest thing though - the perspective pictures give. The sizes of your areas look diffe...

Living in such a mild climate I always find it AMAZING that plants can survive after being subjected to that kind of COLD!!!

Awesome shots!

I feel like a dork~! Of course a bog garden would be a japanese garden staple - considering ponds and waterfalls are such a main feature of so many - I'm new to this Japanese garden style, please forgive my obvious ignorance of the subject. :)

Well - Im out of luck here. The pic I posted was taken about 2 weeks ago and below are shots from this morning. As you can see here in Northern California the tree is already awake. Good thing I posted here when I did though, because my thoughts were to cut the plant back a bit once it started to gr...

Need maple guidance!

I purchased this home in December and it came with a well established Japanese style garden. In my font yard there are 3 of what I would call Japanese Maples. One is trained to grow against and along the wall - it's quite interesting - however the one that has me the most concerned. The other two ar...

BOG GARDEN!! what a great idea! I second that suggestion. Since the concrete is already there you could 'try' a bog garden for a bit - which by the way would look like a natural progression extending from a pond. If you end up not being too happy with the bog garden you could always go back t...

WOW! what a find. Finding something like that was surely exhilirating! I love to find treasures in my yard. I agree about joining the two ponds though, sounds like more trouble than it's worth. Is getting rid of your other pond and keeping just the new one an option? Would getting rid of the old one...
