Thanks guys I just know on the label it read Phyllostacus Nigra. I will try and get some close up pics. By the way its now over 7foot tall! I actually quite like it. It only appears to be growing shoots from its base at the moment and I cant see any evidence that its spreading. If I do find sh...

Is this normal to grow this ...

Thanks to you both. I love my garden and will continue till to change it till I think its right. I think sometimes I am to self critical. Henrik I agree with your list entirely but would add my wife! as she wants it to look more like an English garden Ha Ha. I was quite pleased when my father in law...

Why??

I have put a lot of work into the garden this year and its starting to take shape but I'm not quite happy with it yet. Why is it when I have visitors they love it but I cant quite see it?? I think people are very critical of their own work maybe? or most people dont really understand the principles ...

Bert that looks just like pictures in one of the books I use for reference. 'A Japanese touch for your garden' I bought from the Japanese section of the Epcot Centre when we holidayed at Disney about 5 years ago. Its one of my favourite books. So I think your path looks spot on!! Regards Colin

Bamboo

I have recently bought a Nigra which I am very pleased with, I also have some other bamboo which I have no idea of the name or type. I bought them from 'Wilkinsons' They just sell them as patio bamboo at about £2. One I planted about 4 years ago and its hardly grown since. I,m assuming they must be ...

J that is great its so unusual. I think the only thing that you would need to do is keep the foliage pads trimmed neat. I would love one of those, a real focal point. :D

Hi J, I bought it at the local 'Focus' DIY store, it was on sale at a very reasonable price. I may put some bamboo roll on the roof section to give it a more Japanese look. It is ideal for my garden size as I dont have space for a teahouse and that corner of the garden is the last place that gets an...

Here are the other 2 as promised. The first shows a shot up the garden from the patio, you can see I have rippeed up the horrible crazy paving path and replaced it with a stepping stone style, leading past a small gravel area with 3 large stones. I have placed a small lantern on top of the tallest s...

With a great deal of luck and some serious assistance from the secretary I should now have some decent size pictures attached  The first is the patio area and you can just see my tskubai which I had to repair after the winter. The second is a close up showing the new buddha, surrounded by the ...
