harryshoe, wish you were closer so you could shovel mine too.
tigger, it sounds like it's all a mix of good and bad events and timing, but I'm sure your gardens will continue to look fabulous!

Re: Gardeners' Hands!
kHT, nitrile is made from a synthetic rubber and doesn't contain any latex. Have you tried them? I must admit that they work best when they're a good fit to your hands and fingers, and fit varies by glove.

Re: Gardeners' Hands!
My hands used to be stained filthy all summer -- usually with some deep cracks in my index fingers that were permanently packed with dirt. I tried to wear garden gloves as much as possible, but always had to remove them for better dexterity. Then two years ago my niece gave me the ugliest bright pin...

Greetings and some hostas :)
Hi all -- Just a quick photo of one of my little gardens that I thought might even be worthy to post here. I just love this M. aureomarginata! The "star" of this garden is actually mostly out-of-sight in this photo. At foreground is Dark Star and I got it in my one and only hosta trade and that was ...

Re: Have you ever just hacked off all the leaves?!
Pia, there is no hope of me ever getting rid of the slugs and snails... my yard borders a huge field that's full of them! After a good rain you can stand near the field's edge and watch hundreds of them march into my yard. LOL! That field also brings me mice, snakes, bunnies, deer, birds, mosquitoes...

Re: Have you ever just hacked off all the leaves?!
Darn. I liked Karma's answer best. lol! But since everyone with a growing season similar to mine says to NOT cut them back now, I won't. :p All the rain we got made my hostas huge this year -- and their flowers are unbelievably beautiful!!! It's been nice to not have to water for months, but trust m...

Have you ever just hacked off all the leaves?!
haha! We've had a REALLY tough "summer" here... it started raining in Mid-May, got cold, and continued to rain through the first week in July -- when my entire village was flooded for the first time in recorded history! Then we had a week of extreme heat, then cold and rain again, and basically gene...

Re: Couple pics of the Moon
Looks good! we had cloud cover so couldn't see it, but it was cold! I''ve learned to never plant out before a full moon at the end of May or beginning of June.
