Congratulations to Lisa
Lisa Putnam has agreed to be up for the VP position in the MN Hosta Society.
She is a high-energy motivating force!
Election will be held next month.
You go girl!
BTW
She motivated me to get the creative juices going and submit some ideas for the theme for the 2010 national convention.

Yeah, I know how that is with the lilacs being too tall to pick or smell up close. Mine are that way too. But don't want to cut them all down. May not live long enough for them to bloom well again!!! :D So will probably prune out the oldest and tallest. Nanyc PS I don't buy green bananas for the sam...

Thanks That's very interesting. Wonder what it provides....nitrogen? You said that you put it in the hole when planting. Do you use it for established plants...sprinkle it around the base? Glad it doesn't increase the rabbit population, those little...critters! don't need any help. And the ca...

I feel I'm not making myself understood
I get it, and I think you were clear.
Compare it to cutting down lilacs.
They come back with fresh young growth, and appear to be great.
But they take a few years to mature and bloom well again.
and Good night!

My question is this: Does the leaf stalk (petiole?) photosynthesize enough to feed the roots if the leaf is just too shattered/shredded, crispy and obviously dead to the world? (or been lunch for the deer and rabbits) Had a hail storm here about a month ago which just tore up everything. As you all ...

So sorry about the water in the basement. Been there ....done that ..Myself! I left the soaker hose on for ...umm, uhh, 'a little too long', and the water seeped in through where the floor meets the wall. ( Thoroughly watered!) That made a long over-due purging necessary. And guess that I did...

Oh noooo Ol' Frosty snuck in last night. Can see that a few things got nipped. Will go out in a bit to access the damage. I'm certainly not ready to give up the gardens. There is sooo much yet to do. Guess I don't have to give it up just yet. Not till I can't break the ground with the pick-axe thing...

Caladium
Thought that I would start them inside....Feb or Mar, maybe. Can't put them out till mid May, or later.. I have kept begonias, and they need to start in Feb, am just guessing that the caladium could need that much time too. Have tried with caladium in the past, with 0% success. Am hoping for better ...

I bought a number of lovely Caladium this year. After initial die-down, they have started to come back quite nicely....just in time for frost! I want to try to carry the bulbs over winter. I won't have room (nor probably the expertise or humidity to keep the whole plant). Does anyone have any sugges...

Lovely!
This one gets 2-4 hours of afternoon sun?
Hot, early afternoon, or cooler (?) late afternoon (after 4)?
Think I need to re-locate my FWs, too.

Charla Thanks for the info. I believe that there are a few that are not just green. One of the 'kabitan' shows a stripe and the 'bright lights' are yellow and round.(Those were started last spring in the basement) I have hopes for those that are under Paradigm. That is such a gorgeous plant, I'd lik...
