I need all the motivation help I can get! This has really worked for me, to give me the little push I need to walk more each day. It makes it more fun for me. Hope you like yours.

I might join that, too! About three weeks ago, I started doing The Best Life web page. I don't really stick with the diet very well, although I am eating more healthily. But it really got me motivated to move more. I started wearing my pedometer (which needed a new battery because it's been sitting ...

Wow wow wow!! What a beautiful place to live. I would chance the occasional rockslide, too.
Gorgeous, thanks for posting these pictures so we can see where you live. You'll have to post some in the fall. It must be absolutely spectacular when the leaves change.

I found this on starting perennial seeds:

I've never tried growing these from seeds myself, but I might try it, too.

The purple one is loaded with pods, so shouldn't be any problem getting them to anyone who wants some. I've just picked two dried pods off of my Lady Baltimore, and have a couple more on the plant. They look like really healthy seeds. This is the first time I've tried to get seeds, so I'm excited to...

Hi, Deb, I'll let the seeds mature a little more, then let you know when they're ready. Apparently Lord Baltimore is sterile (poor Lady Baltimore!), so I won't have any seeds from that. But the plum and the pink are doing well in the seed production department. I already have one dried pod from the ...

I am in Zone 4-5, and they grow just great as a perennial here. I have found them to be pretty hard to kill, or they wouldn't be growing in my yard! :) Mine are very tall and full this year. I should have probably pinched them off early in the season, but once they started blooming I didn't want to,...

Well, I agree that I wouldn't call it a gift to her - but it is a very nice plant. :) I'm not sure how you will explain the purchase of more hostas...ummm, you're helping the ozone layer by planting more vegetation that will absorb carbon dioxide and release oxygen??? Trying to make your own little ...

The plum-colored one has a different leaf than most perennial hibiscus I've seen, too. It's not deeply cut and more maple-like than the others. The leaves are more rounded, as you can see in the picture. It has a couple of really good seed pods that I'm watching to make sure they don't fall off and ...

Is this what he saw? The Plum Crazy variety. Or maybe the Robert Fleming? Red, but so dark that it might seem maroon? http://www.flemingsflowerfields.com/flowers.htm# I have a plum-colored one. I don't think it's Plum Crazy; the leaves in the Fleming picture look like they are a purple color, and mi...

Charla, I was also going to post that same thing about technology. I am always one to want the latest and greatest right away, but I know I'm going to pay a price for that. When it's half the price the next year, I don't feel bad because I made that decision knowingly. I've also seen hostas that I w...

Your photographs are so artistic. I especially love the coloring on Flemish Sky and the coloring and rippling on Sky Dancer.

Sorry, off-topic on the main topic of this thread, but just had to post one of my very favorite quotes by Viktor Frankl: "Everything can be taken from a man but...the last of the human freedoms - to choose one's attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one's own way." -Viktor Frankl It'...

Sure, Spider, I will put you down for some seed. I've never let any go to seed before, so I'm not sure how long it will take. I'll let you know when they're ready!

Well, if you read my "so, I want to be a gardener" post, this won't surprise you - I don't do anything. They are in a corner of the yard that is hot and dry. It gets sun much of the day, and usually I don't water them much unless they look a little wilty. That's not often. This year, I planted tomat...

Thanks, John, for the info.
Ginger, I will see if I can get all of the colors I have to seed for you. I'll let you know when they're ready to send!
FYI, these come up quite late in the spring, and then grow like crazy.

Thanks, Charla. It really is so sad that these beautiful plants are being devastated by this disease - especially plants that are otherwise so easy to grow!

Perennial Hibiscus seeds

My hibiscus are blooming really great this year: http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x20/adlesma/th_Img2007-07-25-0001.jpg I usually dead-head them, but I just found that I missed some, and when I opened up one of the pods, it was full of seeds. I have a pretty large one ripening on the bush; is anyo...

Thanks, Chris. I'll wait until next year and see what happens. I sent the albomarginata to the extension office, and they said it did have the virus. But now I can't really find any leaves that look like the ones I sent. Could it be possible that the ELISA test was a false positive? (Probably wishfu...

I wish the unknown one would flower - that would help with the ID. Sounds like August Moon and Elegans it is for the other two. I do have what I guess are seed pods on the Elegans? If I want to try to plant them, how long do I leave them on the plant? I also had a scape with pods on it on my Guardia...
