It does look like you all had fun. Maybe I can drive up from Alabama one of these days.

Re: A couple of pics from the garden today......

My Sun Power is mostly green. I moved it about six weeks ago to a spot I think will offer more sun and I hope that helps it become brighter. There is a photo of it in a issue of Fine Gardening magazine and it is green there too. Will more sun light make it color up?

Re: Lakeside Foaming Sea

Sounds like you had a big day buying plants. I got hooked on hydrangea this year and among my purchases is a Endless Summer Twist and Shout lacecap, just one though.

Re: Hosta 'Soul Brother'?

Viola Ann - how do you like your Heart and Soul? Mine is in its third season with me and it has been a slow grower. I almost gave it away this year due to my disappointment in it. But I put it in a pot and it looks sort of cute that way, so I'm keeping it.

Re: HVX - Highlights from Keynote address by Dr Ben Lockhart

Most of my recent hosta purchases have been potted and sunk in the ground mostly because I have had a problem with voles. But, a related benefit is that at least I feel a lot better about the risk of spreading HVX with sinking potted hostas. I gave a hosta to a friend a few weeks back and it was no ...

Dash - you are in excellent company. Early on, much of what I learned about hostas came from this forum. Welcome.

That Smokey is smokin'. I looked it up on the Myhosta database and there are some great things said about it.

Re: I just do not know

Pia - how depressing! Here in central Alabama, I have several hostas that are in bloom. It is a great year so far and my hydrangeas look the best ever. I'll try to send some of our heat your way.

Re: What caused this?

My Elegans came back very different this year due to voles attacking it last year. I am not suggesting that you have had voles, only that it is hard for me to even call my Elegans - Elegans. As a matter of a fact, I have given it a new name. When it comes back looking like Elegans should, I'll swap ...

Re: H. Regal Splendor

Alexa - that is a fabulous leaf, maybe you can do something with it. Kaylyred - I had a Krossa Regal and it put out the most amazing bloom. It had to be 5' tall. But it is a gonner. I kept having a Southern Blight type problem with it and a Royal Standard that were planted side by side. Maybe I'll g...

Thanks for the replies. It is a shame since it was just starting to get some nice shape on it when the voles did their damage.

Take a guess what hosta this is

http://i186.photobucket.com/albums/x67/jobranch/PetiteE.jpg This is what my Elegans looks like these days (that is Velvet the cat also in the photo). Last season, it was attacked by voles and I guess it is forever changed. What would cause this? Here is the same hosta two years ago... http://i186.p...

Good luck to all you folk up north. As far as a late freeze here in Dixie, we did not have one this year, thank goodness. I'll keep my fingers crossed for y'all.

Re: Do you ever just eliminate some hostas?

Ones that I don't want, I usually give away unless they are declining for some reason. I just put them on the edge of the road in a wheel barrow. I have a sign that says free hostas and they are usually gone in a second. I have a Gold Standard right now that is doing poorly. I thought about just thr...
