Re: Slug Control
:hmm: I've used the ammonia 1:10 but hasn't worked for me. One reason is that it is primarily a "contact" killer, i.e. you have to spray the slugs when they are out. I just can't do it...try to spray in the dark...I trip and the mosquitos are awful. I have used Sluggo with varying degrees of s...

Re: Where is everybody at?
Well I spent 3 hrs outside cleaning up my flower beds. Lots of perennials and bulbs popping up which I didn't know about until I removed the tree leaves I had piled on my beds to protect them. It was 61 degrees here in Wisconsin today! Also putting out garden statues and ornaments. Far too ea...

Re: How to landscape under these trees?
Just a footnote to my earlier post... The trees in these beds are almost all white oaks and black cherry with the exception of one rotting Norway Maple...here you can see what I did with that....yup! I shoved a hosta down its throat! The hosta didn't survive the winter  but it was fun for the g...

Re: How to landscape under these trees?
Estesbubba, Oh man, I have LOTS of ideas and photos for you! In 2006 I was exactly where you are now...a big stand of trees that were a PAIN to mow around...mine were further apart than yours! We had an arbor built and prepared the soil. http://i150.photobucket.com/albums/s87/charanda1/group%20photo...

:hmm: Nut: I got this hosta from a Madison hosta grower by the name of Tom Riddle  I was loading up my trunk with all my hosta purchases and his wife came running out to the car with this little hosta and gave it to me. She said she didn't know what it was...they must have lost track of the tag...

Re: Hosta Detectives ...come forth!
Detectives,
Immature Joshua's Banner...possible - it does resemble the 1st photo in the Hosta Library
Platinum Tiara? - I don't think so..my PT's leaves are much more "heart" shaped than these more lance-like leaves.
The colors are "spot-on" though!
Any other thoughts?

Hosta Detectives ...come forth!
I got this small, unlabelled hosta in 2007 so these pictures are of it as a 2 yr. old plant. Quite small, pale green (almost yellow) center, creamy wavy margins. The leaf at the top is most representative of its features. :( I don't recall what color the flowers were or even if it did flower last ye...

Re: Is Great Expectations still the best of its type?
I have almost all of the ones mentioned and I'll try to post a picture of each along with my observation in my zone 5a garden. Great Expectations - slow grower so you don't have to worry about it getting huge. I got this one in 2000... http://i150.photobucket.com/albums/s87/charanda1/Hostas%202008/G...

... I don't have a favorite hosta; I have several! :bawl: Here is Captain Kirk - this one is getting so pretty that even my DIL, who hates Sci-Fi, wants a piece of it. Got it in 2006. http://i150.photobucket.com/albums/s87/charanda1/Hostas%202008/CaptainKirk-Aug72008.jpg Here it is with Whirlwind an...

Re: Satisfaction '07 & '08
OMG! :P You are right! They (Satisfaction & Piedmont) DO look identical! This is one I just noticed two years ago when I moved it to a new location. Wow - it got pretty amazing! But it was hidden before far back in my beds and I hadn't noticed all the changes that had been going on in the rippling o...
