If you apply this too often, can you burn the plant? You know how easy that would be. If a little is good, the more would be better.............But you do suggest that you do this in the fall as well, even if you live up north?

Mine started to turn purple/blue and it is back to being pink. I did not try the aluminum sulphate yet. Has anyone had luck actually keeping them blue?

Endless Summer Hydrangea

Did anyone buy this plant? I did this summer. It is supposed to be cold hardy. Anyway, when I bought it, it had pink flowers. I wanted to change it to blue. I have gotten them to be more on the lavender side. Am having a difficult time trying to change to all blue. Read some articles about it and th...

My mom lives in Northern Wisconsin. I thought that Hydrangeas do not like the hot sun from the West. So I was thinking that maybe planting it on the east side of her house would be better then a spot she has open on the south side. But if the Endless Summer likes more sun, then maybe it should be pl...

Jane - I have a co-worker who planted one here last summer and it has not come back. You may be ok down in Ilinois, but I just wonder up here in North Dakota, that maybe I should try to cover it at least for the first winter. I would be sick if I lost it to the cold weather. Speaking of cold weather...

I guess I'm confused as the Annabell I have, is getting new shoots from the ground around and inside the plant and then also leaves coming off of the old branches.

Annie - Being in Illinois, you might be warmer then zone 4. Could you be in zone 5? I have a white Annabell and I just love it. The balls of flowers are as larger or even larger then a persons' head. Some people have just hugh bushes, but mine only gets about 3 feet tall. I wondered if that was beca...

Endless Summer

Yesterday, I bought my mother and myself, an Endless Summer Hydrangea. I am holding off planting yet. We are expecting a couple of nights this week yet, to be in the low 30's. I bought them at Lowes for 20.00 each. The main nursery in town had the same ones for 38.00 - Last year I missed out on them...

Spread weed and feed

I spread weed and feed last night on my uncut lawn. We are supposed to get rain on Saturday night. My lawn mower is in the shop and I have not had a chance to mow. How long after you spread the weed and feed can you mow? I know that you are supposed to give it anywhere from 24 to 48 hours before you...

I saw a picture in a magazine of an oval rock to put in your garden for display. I thought they said mod podge was used. Don't they have one that is made for outdoor use?

Who has used Mod Podge?

I thought I might try to use Mod Podge on large rocks for the garden. I have never tried this stuff, but thought maybe someone out there has. Any hints or ideas? How do you use this anyway? Have you ever tried this on furniture? Once you put something on with this, can you ever get off?

I cut the tip off about two months ago. It just came right back, but off to the side. I was thinking that you can not get an umbrella plant to sprout from the base of the plant? I have it next to window and it gets bright light, but not direct light. I thought it was not necessary as they say these ...

The one stalk that I have is about 2 feet high. I cut off the tip and it just sprouted a new stem off the side of the top. So now it isn't going to grow straight anymore. I would imagine I will always have to cut the new growth at the top otherwise, it will grow lopsided. Are you sure if I cut it ba...

Thanks for the advice. I think with both plants, I'll let the new growth on the ends grow a bit and then cut that off and root. Then plant them around the main stems.

Forcing new leaves

Is there a way to force a new leaf to come out on a houseplant to where you want it? If I keep pinching off the new leaves at the end of the stem, will this force the new growth to come out else where? If I put a notch in on a certain place then on a stem, would it come out there? I am trying to mak...

Seeing as how Jane does furniture refinishing, I wonder if she has ever done decorative painting on furniture? I would like to try it with pieces I would pick up cheap at garage sales. Could someone tell me how to get started, please?

I would like to know what Linda does in her spare time? I can not imagine doing all of these things. Linda is probably good at all of them, otherwise she would not have stayed with working on the arts. Isn't it a wonder why men really don't seem to get into the crafty stuff or sewing? Granted, some ...

Oh yes, I also have an empty wine bottle from a friend who made wine a couple of years ago. Of course it was full when she gave it to me. It's dark green and I hate to throw it away. I was thinking I would try to paint a picture on it and give it back to this gal. She decorates in a wilderness theme...
