Here in Canada we call that a "voodoo" Lily. And yes they stink like hell !!! Great flower however....one no normal florist will ever use in an arrangement. They smell like they do to attract flies (instead of bees) that will pollinate them.

I think one of the first leaves up got nipped by some frost. Give it a nice drink of alfalfa tea and I bet it will make strides for you in no time. Cut the ugly leaf off.... but make sure you disinfect your cutting shears before and after.

Cut em' down ?

My hellebore have finished blooming (west coast...started in January) and now have been attacked by aphids. Can I cut them down to about 8" inches till next year ? They are covering my hostas and sure would be nice out of the way !

Thanks

Linda,

That's one nice looking 'Elvis Lives' . Mine only amounted to four dried up roots that looked more like Joan River's face. :P

Perhaps only on the grounds of Graceland

Chaulk up 'Elvis Lives' as a dud for me. I'm on my third try
but it should have been called 'Elvis Dies'. Perhaps I'm overdosing it (LOL... I'm in trouble know with all you Elvis fans) with plant food.

Now I'm in trouble

Darn you jgh....LOL  you've now got me thinking about breeding the fellow. I will take your advice and carefully remove the bigger eye and, as I always do, use fungigide. It was a very expensive purchase ....I don't want to lose it. It's currently in my holding area with 600 other varieties so...

Another...should I seperate !

Hi Gang, I aquired this hosta from a collector last year. She knew Ed Elslager and purchased the hosta, labeled 86XE35, from his Estate when his plants were auctioned off. In her discussions with Ed himself, prior to his death, she was told he was still working with this specimen to get a large stre...

thanks

Thanks Gang for id'ing it for me. I believe the plant is 3 years old this summer. Most of my 800 plants are in pots waiting to find their way to my future acreage. I started collecting in late 2006. I have about 10 plants that I misplaced tags for but I didn't want to bore you all with trying to I'd...

Help with an Id ?

Hi Gang,

This is one of my first hostas I ever bought. At the time I was not a hostaholic and I tossed the tag. I'm sure it's a fairly common variety !

Thanks

Could you help me with an ID ?

Hi gang, This is one of the first hostas I ever bought...well before I got the hosta collecting bug. As I was not collecting at the time I threw out the plant tag. I'm fairly sure it's a relatively common variety but thought I'd "throw it out there" to you folks before I spend hours trying to locate...

Glenn's Hosta List

Here is my Hosta list. Most are still potted as we have not yet taken possession of the 50+ acre property we have just purchased. Hope to have my list up to 1200 by late August. 8-). I'm weeding out the double listings once I ensure that I have changed/found all the pots involved.

Hosta 'Mowing'

I would like to increase the size of a number of my collector hostas and have read a little about the technique called 'mowing'. I understand that this method is either accomplished by stepping on merging eyes in the spring or cutting make foliage during the growing season. Has anyone used this meth...
