Trouble with gnats or tiny black flys
I have quite a few house plants and also started some seedlings but have problems with little black flys or gnats flying in and around them. It seems like years ago when I posted in the Hosta forum quite a bit that someone had posted that either vanilla, or apple cider vinegar or something could be ...

Re: Need ID
I was unable to get all the flowers clipped off last year before they went to seed and now I'm pulling them out of my hosta beds by the 5 gal buckets full. Going to keep a few for interest, but the rest go in the compost pile. Still have several large clumps of them to pull.

Re: Happy Spring everyone
It's been a long time since I've been on the forum. A lot of new names and only a few that I remember. Hope to be on more now, but I'm having cataract surgery next week but hopefully that won't keep me off here. Some of my hosta have unfurled a few leaves and some haven't even poked their eye above ...

Re: Planting hosta
Mary Ann and Linda P, I sure do miss those days too. I remember a bunch of us getting together and the afterwards splitting the hosta. One time a bunch of us got together and went to Davenport/Moline area to Frieda's but I don't think that nursery is there anymore.. not sure though, but I haven't re...

NewlyTilled HostaBed.jpg Yesterday I set the plants in pots out in the tilled area that I'm going to plant them in. Today I started planting them but have about 25 more to plant. I'm going to attach a picture of the tilled area and then a picture of the potted plants that I set out. Tomorrow, if I ...

Re: Planting hosta
Thanks for your all your comments from England, Denmark & Illinois. I wasn't sure if anyone would reply beings it had been so long since I posted here. I guess hosta do make us family. Re: Planting hosta
Thanks for your comments. It'll probably be Monday or Tuesday before I get them planted because it is raining here but we are needing it already even with the flooding we have in the area although thankfully I'm on high ground & there is a walkout basement in the back that has a gully in the back so...

Planting hosta
Hi, It's been quite sometime since I've been here... not sure if anyone remembers me or not. Been very busy... life just seems to get in the way at times. Anyway, my dear hubby took me to Hornbakers Nursery last fall and again this spring. They had amazing sales of hosta for $4.99 each and we bought...

Re: Yet another nematode discussion
Another formula that I've tried is: 1/2 cup of hydrogen peroxide per gallon. I spray & staturate the plants with this mixture. Several of the plants that showed signs of the nems a couple years ago & I sprayed with this mixture several times during the year hasn't showed signs yet this year so I'm h...

Re: Summer Trades Received
I received my secret trade today... doing the happy hosta dance. Aundrea (Scrappinmusicmommy) sent me 2 hosta that I did not have. I knew it might be hard for anyone to come up with some that I didn't have, but she did good! She sent me: Swoosh & Rippling Rhythm & a hot pink bee balm. Thank you so m...

I mailed my package of hosta today.. they are headed west & a little north.

Re: Summer Trade 2010
I'll sign up... I have quite a few that I can trade that don't look too burnt up. Some of them are really getting burnt from the heat & they get very little sun.

Conifer Tree problem
My son's trees have these things growing on them that look like nuts, but they aren't. When I opened one, it has a fiberous inside. I've taken several pictures & will add them here. I have 2 more pictures but won't post them, unless someone would like to see them. TIA for any help you can give me. D...

Re: Need help to ID a Woodland Flower
Thanks for the ID Chris. I first noticed this one last year when it was blooming & wondered where it came from. Still don't know. I don't know where the ones came from that are on the West side of the house either. We live on 2 acres of timber so there is plenty of shade & filtered sun for them. I k...

Need help to ID a Woodland Flower
This plant has been growing in my woods (I didn't plant it) & there is some at the side of the house also. These are all in mostly shade under trees. It is perhaps 6 - 8 inches high & the flowers maybe 1 1/2" - 2". They are very white & pretty. I'll try to attach a picture.
