Welcome! Lots of nice folks on here. I understand your dilemma on living in an apartment and not having anyplace to garden. Our son and daughter-in-law are in the same situation. They do have a bit of a deck/balcony so I told them to start getting pots and get ready for spring. They could have a reg...

Karma--Looked over your website. Very interesting. Lots of good thoughts and ideas there. Appreciate the input. I like the idea of getting a different perspective of your yard from different angles with new, unexplored beverages as well. Might even come to the conclusion that getting the perspective...

Chris--On the suggestions you posted, would any of them be unsuitable for planting around the evergreens with the same parameters as along the back of the house, (i.e.--about a foot or so from the drop edge of the trees.) I know some things don't want to grow by pine needles, but if I was to dig out...

Hey, Thank-You all! Very informative and interesting. Lots of ideas in there. I like the pictures, Chris. That helps. It gives me an idea of what to look for. I just do not have the imagination to come up with ideas on my own. I read somewhere that there are 2 sides to the brain. If you use 1 of the...

Oh, the bush at the corner of the house is a Weigala. Seems to be staying alive. Near the back deck we tried to bury flower pots in the ground and put landscape rock around them and put herbs in the pots, but it is too shady there for them to live, so we'll probably put some shade plants up there in...

Near the house it's clay and dirt mix. Fairly hard packed. I think it is dry, but I do water regularly. I have planted other things in there, small roses, lavendar, etc. They either die or barely stay alive. So I dig 'em up and put them someplace else and they grow like crazy. I think that if I plan...

Looking for some ideas.

Hope this is the right place to post this. Looking for some ideas on doing a bit of landscaping around some stands of pine trees on our property, as well as along the back of our house. Seems as though I have absolutely no imagination when it comes to visualizing finished projects. Just would like s...

Here is the Mulberry tree with a bit of altering that I did last year. My brother-in-law just loves this tree and I framed this for him for X-mas. Kind of an old, ominous tree.

Out by the mailbox, at the end of the drive. Did this last year and it came back very nicely. Going to rip out climbing roses on the other side of the drive and do the same thing over there. Just have to decide what I am going to do with the roses. Any thoughts???

This used to be our vegetable garden last year. Didn't like that so we put a flower bed in this year. They have a tough life. Rabbits and deer visit regularly. I think a window box would look nice. Only thing is I'd have to water it daily.

Small bridge over a creek. Planted some specimens to hopefully take over and choke out some weeds/creek growth.

Progress So Far

Last year I was pretty much starting with a plain grass lawn. Wanted to do some landscaping/gardens, etc. This is where I stand so far. Pictures may leave a little to be desired, as some of the plants blend together. Still have some things to do, but with a couple weddings and college graduations, e...

Climbing rose question

Last year we planted 2 different types of a climbing rose. 1 type is being trained along a split rail fence at the end of our drive, and the other was a very cheap type that we bought at Menard's to climb a lattice panel attached to our deck. Now for the question--Do we trim either of these back or ...

Here are the pictures of the benches in use. Sorry to take so long to get them posted. Plants look a little wilted, as we were out of town for a few days and they needed a good watering!

Cactus Question

I have a plain old cactus in a flower pot that I have had for 6-8 years. It's about a foot high, 4-5 inch in diameter. Over the last couple of years, it's developed small growths near the top of the cactus that look like a small cactus growing out of the side. Probably 4-5 of them. My question is, w...
