Thanks everyone. I ended up "lifting" them up out of the ground a bit, so that the crown was at least out of the water. The water finally went down some, but we are supposed to have more rain. Row, row, row your boat......

Fernleaf peony

I have always wanted a fernleaf peony, but they are so expensive at the nurseries. So I put an ad in a free paper to trade a part of a fernleaf peony for hosta or something else. A lady calls and says she THINKS the peony she has is a fernleaf, come and look if I want to. So I do and it was! So she ...

Hostas sitting in water

Enough rain already. First Iowa gets hit with a devastaing tornado (not far from me), now flooding, flooding, rain, flooding, more tornadoes that killed 4 Boy Scouts in western Iowa and more rain and flooding. ENOUGH. I do feel very fortunate. We lost a big pine tree which broke the back window of h...

I got my trade from Dorothy (Astilbeblu) this morning! She was called out of town and had computer problems when she returned. I'm just so glad she is ok. Natalie and I were worried about her. I got nice divisions of: "Allegan Fog" "Independence" "Otome no Ka" and a dwarf Goatsbeard (I had one at my...

Glad you liked your plants, Pat. And I love making the notepads for people! It was fun to be able to stop by. Pat has a very nice place and some wonderful hostas. I could have stayed longer and ooohhhed and ahhhhed, but the natives (kids) were getting restless.

Sue (SUEDIA) and I have talked about coming down. I hope I can. I have wanted to get down there for quite awhile now. What better than to go when there will be a bunch of hosta nuts, I mean Hallsonites.

The kids must be too noisy. Haven't seen it again...boohoo.
Sure was pretty, though. Will have to settle for the Orioles. I have heard them, but haven't spied them, yet. It's not really settling, though, cuz I really like the Orioles.

Red Breasted Grosbeak!

I have a red breasted grosbeak at my feeder...if the kids will quit making noise and scaring it off. This is a first for me! I will have to see if I can get a picture.
