Re: Time for new photos
Kas - Yes, for some reason the shelter has them tattooed when they are neutered in case they show up again they know where they came from. It is quite ugly and I probably would not have gone to this shelter had I known or insisted on a microchip instead. I wish i had a better shot of his tail all po...

Re: Time for new photos
No one is happy in the least about the new addition. Chewie is handling it best, Gracie is just extra grumpy but is starting to calm down, and Peter is miserable with getting jumped constantly. A few more months and they'll be over it.

Re: Time for new photos
Andi, Kiki is looking so plush and pretty! Great shot. The boys are too cute together too. Here's some pics of our new baby, Junebug. Ain't he the cutest?! He has an extra long tail that is super-poofy and is the sweetest kitten we've ever had. If he is up and active it is nearly impossible to get a...

Re: Frosted Velvet, MTB
This one is so cute but it just refuses to grow for me. I have had it for probably 8 years and have seen it bloom maybe twice. Amoenas are my favorites, and I love MTBs too. Wish it did better here.

So sorry for your loss.
Re: Parasites
I found one of these little nasties hitching a ride inside a rhizome a friend sent me. Thank goodness they cannot survive in our climate. I tossed him to the fishes.
Re: Parasites
Another point their life cycle can be interrupted is early spring before temps hit 70, that is when the eggs hatch and the larvae start looking for iris fans to eat into. The moths lay their eggs on plant debris near irises (not just the irises but nearby plants as well) so doing a very thorough cle...

Re: Louisianas!
That's lovely, and the foliage looks great, unlike mine. Wish I had a full size pond to grow more of them in.

Louisianas!
Does anyone grow Louisiana irises? I've had some for years but they were always unhappily potted and are just this year giving me some blooms after I finally got them in the ground last year. They like alot of water and are heavy feeders. Since we have nothing but sand and rock here I buried a 3 foo...

Species irises
Here's a few species irises I grow. If I remember right, there are over 400 species of irises worldwide, with the vast majority in the northern hemisphere, tho recent DNA analysis has just added a wide family of southern hemisphere species to the irisdiciae family. I. foetidissima seedling - A seedl...

Modern bearded TBs
Here's some of the modern tall bearded varieties I photographed this spring. I am not as fond of most varities of the past 40 years as I am the older ones, as I don't care for the super wide petals and overdone ruffling, but these varieties have a more tailored form to them so catch my eye with thei...

Re: Failing Siberians-need advice
Sibs want full sun and very rich soil with plenty of moisture. They also prefer soil that is a bit more acidic. If they are languishing try moving them to a sunnier location and giving them a nice top-dressing with a nitrogen rich mulch.

Re: A few siberians
I have Steve and I love it. It has such a big floppy form to it, even if it is in the same color range as CB. I'd like to get some of the new colors coming out. I have two yellows (Butter & Sugar, Welfenschatz) and a big pink (Fond Kiss), but there are some new ones out in raspberry pink, gold, brow...

A few siberians
The siberian irises sure did not mind the cool wet spring we've had. The clump of light blue ones were especially prolific.

Chris - Gorgeous photos! It looks like you had a great season. The fragrant ones are always my favorites too.
