I'll go with Wilddog on this one.. My potted hosta are kept outside and watered until the first killing frost or freeze. Then in the garage they go, and I don't water them again until I start putting them out when the weather breaks. Never had a problem, and I do this every year.

I've had Ming Treasure since 2003.. This year was the fiirst year it bloomed, I was so surprised, the blooms are just as long as Plantaginea! The leaves are not solid green, though.

I've been really pleased and surprised by Grandmaster as well.

Mine's planted by Mama Mia, another one that has surprised me this year.

I'm a compost junkie, of sorts... I had a miserable compost pile for a few years, pretty much cold composting, with not much for the end result, and then we got the two ponies, and I've got the BEST compost now, and and much as I need! I have several piles, two for the stable waste, easy access to t...

Think I answered my own question...Bayer Advanced Garden 2 in 1 Systemic Rose & Flower has it.. only thing is that it's extremely toxic to bees... That probably wouldn't have bothered me in the past, but our honeybees are practically non existent this year.. Maybe I won't have any nematodes this year!

Hank, is this 2% disulfton systemic poison something that you can get at the local gardening centers? Is there a brand name?

I divided my embroidery this year, and boy... did it ever sulk! I've never seen one handle dividing as badly as this one. It's starting to send up new leaves now, though. Embroidery leaves don't have a lot of substance, and I've found it to be slug bait. Mine has always been in full shade, now that ...

nematodes

My version of the heat treatment is to pot up the hosta (if it's a common one, I'll just pitch it), and put it in FULL sun for the rest of the year. And the next year. And then I keep it in the pot. I still have diazanon granules from before they were banned, and I put that in the potting soil as we...

So maybe I should just do as Hostagourmet does, and just keep adding compost each spring, which is effectively putting them further underground, so to speak...

Every since I got the two ponies, I actually have enough working compost to make a difference!

older hostas need replanted?

I've got several older hostas, (Blue Mammath, Elegans) that used to be beautiful, and now, aren't quite as pretty. They've got that hairy look around the crowns, which are pretty much at ground level. I'm not sure if they've had winter heave, or this is just normal, but should I dig these and replan...

Hank's Friendship Garden

Hank,

Just curious, how is your friendship garden coming along?? You sent me a PM last September, and I never responded, believe it or not, I just checked the PM's today. I usually only check these when we have a secret trade going on....
